Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith - July 5 Show

The show opened with an apology to Blogtalkradio.com listeners. The show got a late start today. It won’t happen again!

Jasmine opened with the news. Bilal and Andrew were not in with health and sports news. One of the biggest stories of the weekend has to be the murder of former NFL star Steve Air McNair of Alcorn State. Folks are getting ready for the memorial service for Michael Jackson on Tuesday.

There are two concerts, Beyonce today and Earth Wind and Fire next week. I have two tickets to see Earth Wind and Fire and for a donation of $30 each, you can have them.

Ms Fox called in to talk about issues.

After a caller informed me, I shared information about former U.S. Rep Cynthia McKinney who has been in jail since Tuesday, arrested by Israeli Navy while trying to deliver medicine to Gaza.

Another headline was Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s decision to not seek re-election.

Zakii called in and said he was upset about talk about Joe Jackson and how he is being portrayed. Zakii said Jackson was a disciplinarian.

Caller Eddie said he hates that Michael Jackson went back to Los Angeles--where there is a history of racism and the media dictate what they want you to hear.

Diane called about Cynthia McKinney - “I appreciate her efforts. We need to also focus on Africa.” She also said that Gov. Palin is under investigation.

Rochelle Brown and Insights and have both been removed from FOX. After decades at the station Rochelle was terminated and the public affairs show cancelled.

Diane called in to say that she doesn’t see many Blacks around President Obama. I told her that the coverage is not. I asked if she saw coverage of the National Newspaper Publishers Association honoring him and the first lady. I was over Dora Joyner’s house and her son Tom Elliott Joyner talked about when we were in Las Vegas and I asked then-candidate Barack Obama if he would be accessible to the Black Press if elected president and he said yes.

I had to say something because although the school is dealing with accreditation issues, Paul Quinn College still deserves support. Folks can’t give up. I also asked about support from the AME Church.

We really have to start supporting our institutions and programs. Judge Maryellen Hicks supported the Don’t Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon and I really appreciate her, the other celebrity captains, the sponsors and the wonderful volunteers.

Mr. Sweetness called in and talked about Joe Jackson and how the man tried to provide for his family. Mr. Sweetness said his mom worked and made $15 a week and took care of her family like Joe Jackson tried to take care of his. She said what we are dealing with in society today is different.

David called in to say his mom is 85 years old and she is with the AME Church and she has reasons why the AME church won’t help Paul Quinn College. He said he would tell me off the air.

Michelle called in to say she was sad to hear about Rochelle Brown. She also asked whatever happened to Brenda Teele who hosted Good Morning Texas. I told her to call in to Fox and WFAA and tell them that she missed the ladies. The number to Fox is 214-720-4444. The number for WFAA is 214-748-9631.

SHOUT OUTS to the sponsors of the Don’t Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon -

    Until Next Time,

Wherever you go, whoever you talk to and whatever you do, DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE!
