    Date / Time:

Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith from June 14 (sorry for the late post)

This show was broadcast live from the Charleton Methodist Suites where Jerry Rudd,
Jalandria, Claudette, Eric and Ms. Kelly with a great crew are taking care of me.

As we get closer to the big event, I had to tell everyone to get ready for the 15th annual Cheryl Smith’s Don’t Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon Weekend. We start with an evening of Jazz, Soul and Spirit with Miles Jaye at the African American Museum on Friday, June 26, then there’s the bowl-a-thon at USA Bowl on Saturday beginning at 6 and Dick Gregory speaks at 9. Then on Sunday morning, Reporters Roundtable broadcasts live from Harwood 609 with Miles, Dick and Malik. Get tickets at the Dallas Weekly or African American Museum.

This year will be a lot of fun with teams at the bowl-a-thon. Constable Derick Evans has won three times and Comerica is joining us this year, along with the Undertakers from Golden Gate Funeral Home.

Lueretha Slack from Comerica joined me to talk about an Economic Briefing by Comerica economist Damon Johnson, in Dallas on June 24 at Cedar Valley College Performance Hall and in Fort Worth on June 22. He will talk about where he sees the economy going. The program is geared toward pastors because they have to plan for their churches, their pastors -- so he is talking about what he sees economy doing. Comerica is inviting pastors and its open to community groups. I talked about how I talked with Bishop T.D. Jakes about the very subject because Bishop Jakes said he was trying to empower his congregation during these economic times. To RSVP call 214 462 4324 in Dallas, and 817 232 1242 in Fort Worth.

Next we had Bilal talking about health issues and we welcome Andrew Whigham back. He has been out since his mother’s passing. Andrew talked about a building named after his mother, Winifred Whigham, in Tampa, who died earlier this year, on March 28. She was the first black nurse practitioner in the State of Florida.

Comedian Rodney Perry was supposed to join me to talk about the Comedy Show and Golf
Tournament to benefit St. Philip’s School and Community Center. Rodney performs at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters on Friday. David. A Arnold was supposed to be part of the show but he has to reschedule. David has a wonderful shirt --GYST. For the first three callers who get in and tell us what GYST stands for, they get two tickets to Dick Gregory.

    Callers and their answers:

Pastor Johnson -Abysinnia Baptist Church “Get yourself straight”
Belinda “Get your stuff together” of Power House Outreach
Rob Mason - “Get your shirt together”

All three will be receiving tickets to Dick Gregory. Rob Mason actually broke it down for us!
David A. Arnold can be reached at Youtube or www.davidaarnold.com
At the Dallas Weekly, I tell Caprice Blair and Joe Shelby to GYST all the time!

Ty Washington starts at the radio station with Ms. Joycelyn Johnson tomorrow. He says he is supposed to be there at 10am, but he will get there at 9:30 because he knows he needs to be early in case anything happens. He says he will be dressing business casual, regardless of what happens.

I tried to get Bobby Patterson on the phone to talk about the Juneteenth Blues and Jazz Festival on Friday at the African American Museum but we were unsuccessful. Still, get your lawn chairs and come on out at 6p.m., It’s free.

Guess what?! There are jobs available at New Breed. Call 817 302 3013. If you know how to take a phone together and put it back together again, this is the place for you. Check out www.newbreed.com

    MORE CALLERS:

Debra called in--about Dick Gregory tickets
Mike called in and he wants 4 tickets for Dick Gregory, He said he first learned about Mr. Gregory in 1968 and he has been a fan ever since!

I took a minute to remember the wonderful Ivan Van Sertima, the noted historian who passed a few weeks ago. He was a part of the Don’t Believe the Hype family--came to town and did a lecture on Christopher Columbus, back in the early days.

Judge Maryellen Hicks, DA Craig Watkins, Steve Pickett, Dr. Freddy Haynes, Dr. Michael Sorrell, Constable Derick Evans, Tony Dixon, Joyce Ann Brown, K104’s DeDe McGuire, former Miss Black Texas Nicole Barrett and many others are participating in the bowl-a-thon weekend and we want everyone to get their tickets and come on out.

    Shoutouts to:

--Ken Bell, who has a birthday on June 19. He will be at the celebrity bowl-a-thon.

--Renee from Charleton Methodist Hospital -she made sure  I ate!

--Thanks for the calls, emails, flowers, plants, visits, and yes, text messages!

    Until Next Time,
Wherever you go, Whoever you talk to and whatever you do,
    DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE!
