This is a Don't Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon Weekend, so the show opened talking about all of the wonderful activities planned for the weekend.

My first guest was Mark Hackett of Cabot Cheese. Go to Costco's in Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Lewisville and Rockwall today between 10 and 6. We talked about the Calcium crisis and Mark said that the Chef on Air Force One used Cabot Cheese on hamburgers for President Barack Obama. Mark said that someone like me needs 1500 milligrams of calcium daily and he said that milk, cheese and yogurt are good sources of calcium.

Next Dick Gregory joined me and said Happy Father's Day to fathers and women who were filling the gap. He also joked about Father's Day gifts and he mentioned former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, who is now the U.S. Trade Representative. Mr. Gregory met Ambassador Kirk at one of the bowl-a-thons. In closing, Mr. Gregory said the most important thing in the world is oxygen and he thanked me for being the oxygen for Dallas.

Andre Smith, the oldest of the Three Live Crew Plus Three, joined me all the way from Japan He's married and he and Emma have three children and one on the way--due in February. Andre attended St. Philip's, then T.L. Marsalis, Atwell and graduated from David. W. Carter, where the Class of 1989 just had its reunion.

Andre sang Happy Birthday to me.

I gave the news update today. Daisja Weaver joins the long list of children dead at the hands of their parents. Once again valuable time was wasted while the police department searched for a "kidnapped baby." Alandus Weaver and Tamaira Creagh being held for obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. A Philadelphia Inquirer special issue years ago called attention to the countless number of children who had been molested, raped or murdered.

Services were held for Rev. C.B. T. Smith of Golden Gate last week.

Concord Church Sr. Pastor Bryan Carter will lead a prayer vigil at 6p.m. in the parking lot on the corner of Griffin and Commerce Street in downtown Dallas, to show support for former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill and his wife. The trial begins tomorrow.

A caller, Joe Jack, sang "What You Won't do for Love" to me.

Byron Lattimore was elected president of the Dallas Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity--located at 2515 Martin Luther King Blvd.

David called in regarding Dick Gregory and the 12 Laws of Nature.

Lynn called in to say how well Andre and the crew are doing. She was surprised to hear that Andre is 23!

James Rogers called in to talk about N'Cobra's event over the weekend.

I talked about the 15th Annual Cheryl Smith's Don't Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon Weekend. There will be a silent and live auction. The live auction will include a McDonald's Birthday Party for 15; a live broadcast of Reporters Roundtable with ads from the North Dallas Gazette, the Elite News, The Dallas Examiner and The Dallas Weekly; an Obama nation piece and a role on Channing People's newest film, Red.

The show opened up with Jasmine with the news followed by Bilal with your health tips. If you want a trainer, call Bilal at 817 707 8159. NBA Finals going on. Andrew Whigham will be back soon with sports. He has been taking a break since he lost his mother earlier this year. Our prayers are with him.

Dr. Harry Robinson was my first guest, talking about what's going on at the African American Museum. The African American Museum Gala last night featured Morris Day and the Time. I said I would give Morris Day a shout out, and I did. At the auction last night, dinner for 10 with Dr. Freddy Haynes went for about $2200. Peaches Party Package is the caterer!

The Museum has the George Washington Carver Exhibit, "An extraordinary man with a mighty vision." Dr. Robinson said Dr. Carver was way ahead of his time when you talk about the green movement and he was on a mission to help poor farmer. The African American Museum is the only African American museum in the country to host the exhibit and it will be there through October 25 but Dr. Robinson is encouraging everyone to get in before Sept 15th, before preparation for the State Fair begins then parking will be an issue. Dr. Robinson saluted his committee of volunteers and talked about a group of retired scientists who are running a lab with children, running dna tests on everything from peanuts, black-eyed peas and sweet potatoes.

The Museum also has a 6-week summer camp, from 8-5p.m. with field trips, and an emphasis on science and exhibition, reading, spanish, drama, African American history and art. There's also the South Dallas children's choir. Dr. Robinson says for those who can't get into the 6-week program, there are four individual week-long camps focusing on science and African American history. Call 214 565 9026 ext 307 for more information.

If you want information about the African American Museum's Blues and Jazz Festival on Juneteenth, June 19, call 214-565-9026, ext 335 and ask for Rhonda Grimes. When you come to the Festival, you can also visit the Carver exhibit for the reduced cost of $3 adults and $1 children. The Festival is FREE and features Bobby Patterson and a host of others.

Miles Jaye will be performing at the African American Museum on June 26 at 7p.m. Call 214 428 8958 for tickets.

On June 13th Southern University Alumni Federation of Dallas will hold its annual Bayou Bash at 6:30p.m. This event supports chapter's scholarship fund for Southern University Alumni Association and there will be plenty of food (crawfish), vendors, music, and fun.

You can get tickets at www.SUAFD.org or call 214 565 9026 ext 311

I mentioned that Florida A&M University Alumni Association will be having a get together on June 13 and University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will also be having a golf tournament and picnic that day. I said we need to all get together! We discussed the possibility of having an all black college picnic so that each school can showcase the things that make their school unique. Dr. Robinson suggested having it on the Fair Park grounds. He said that the Louisiana schools (Southern, Grambling, Xavier and Dillard) will be having a Mardi Gras Gala in February to benefit schools scholarship fund.

A lot has been going on at the Museum--Tuskegee had a meeting there and alums toured the Carver exhibit with chapter president Dora Joyner. UAPB had a reception for the Lone Star Classic.

My next guest, Jackie Christie, talked about the movement --uplifting women! How to have inner peace is highlighted in her book, Proud to be a Colored Girl. In the book, she says that all women have some color in them and they are all beautiful.

"Nobody has tried to unite women of all colors," said Ms. Christie "We need to understand that we are all important."

Proud to be a Colored Girl, By Jackie Christie is "dedicated to all the beautiful colored girls in the world."

Jackie is married to NBA star Doug Christie and she is an author, designer and radio talk show host. They are also featured on a cable television show. She talks about how her husband caught a lot of "heat" for loving and respecting her.

They have the Infinite Love Foundation and they help "impoverished families" and mentor youth.

Dr. Robinson said you can get the book at the African American Museum. It is also available at Barnes and Noble or you can go on line to www.infinitelovepublishing.com

Jackie and Doug will be in the Dallas area soon and they plan to stop by and visit to talk more indepth about their projects.

    ----

A caller wanted to know if Alayna had the baby. I talked about how I left the station running to Charlton Methodist after the show on last Sunday only to find that she had been discharged because of false labor. I was talking to Marvin Jones and I thought they said they sent her home with the baby! On Monday I went back to the hospital. This time Parkland and she had a baby girl - Aaliyah - 6 pounds 6 ounces, healthy with a head of hair.

Don't forget your run-off election. You have to get out and vote on June 13.

Carla Ranger got her job back at Dallas County Community College District. See what activism will get you. You have to speak out. The DISD Board trustee had lost her job but she got it back!
