Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith - April 26, 2009

I was so excited about today's show because I had comedian David A. Arnold joining me.  The show opened with Jasmine and the news, followed by Bilal with the health update.  Dr. Martin Hawkins from the Southern Bible Institute talked about the organization's 82nd anniversary programs on May 1 and 3.  Dr. C.B.T. Smith will be the speaker at the banquet on Friday night at 7p.m. at the Hilton Anatole and the student graduation will be on May 3 at 3p.m. Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Arlington. For more information, call 972-224-5481 or log on to www.southernbible.org.
Then there was David A. Arnold.  He is so funny.  David talked about how he started teaching a comedy class and that has been very successful. He went from doing 1 class a week to 5 classes weekly.  David said he started doing his VLOG on Facebook then he was asked to do it for YouTube.  So you can check him out on www.youtube.com/Davidaarnold.  He will be back in Dallas on June 20, along with Rodney Perry, who has also been on Reporters Roundtable.  Stay tuned for more information.
After David went to catch his flight, I talked with Gemeral Berry, publisher of Our Texas Magazine.  We talked about the commemorative issue focusing on the Black Press.  You can subscribe to Our Texas at 1-800-766-7710 or log on to www.ourtexas.com.
Yesterday was a busy day, so I talked about 4 places I went:
-Sister to Sister Heart Health Fair at the Automobile Building in Fair Park, where I moderated 2 sessions, one on a healthy start to your day, where Dr. Cara East spoke and Dr. Lillie Haynes and Mary made smoothies, then it was off to Food and Fitness - The Great Stess Reliever, with author Monica Bearden, who talked about good and bad chocolate.  She is the author of Chocolate-A Healthy Passion and The Baby Fat Diet. Shay Moore from our sister station KRNB 105.7, Miss Community dianne gibson and Dallas Weekly Columnist Earnestine Cole were also speakers.
Next I went to Joyce Ann Brown's Open House at MASS's headquarters.  Joyce spent nine years, five months and 24 days in prison for a crime she didn't commit.  This year marks the 20th since she was released.
From there I went to Lincoln Humanities and Communications Magnet where the Dallas Local Organizing Committee held its Youth Empowerment Symposium.  I visited with DISD Trustee Ron Price and City Councilwoman Carolyn Davis, who are running for the same council seat.  I also talked to Sis Jan Muhammad of the NOI and announced the Millions More Movement's 3rd annual community science fair on May 2 at Muhammad Mosque No. 48,  2429 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, 2:30-6p.m. and featuring workshops, science games and exhibits and food, fun and prizes.  Tambra Burkins and I talked about her sweet potato pie and macaroni and cheese recipes and I plan to visit her at the Chicken Shack and also have her on the show. The Chicken Shack is located at 1718 Ewing Avenue in Dallas. A representative from We Are Uniforms introduced herself to me and told me about her company's inventory. She said they can provide all types of uniforms at www.weareuniforms.com.
Then I went to the Tuskegee University meeting and reception for the George Washington Carver exhibit at the African American Museum.

Shoutouts to: Friendship West Baptist Church  for hosting the political forum last Thursday.
--Happy Belated Birthday to Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price - April 24
--Happy Belated Birthday to his mom, Mrs. Willie Faye Price - April 22
--Happy Belated Birthday to Lady Chadwick - April 22
--Terry Allen, because I saw a young lady at the health fair and she told me that she heard me speak at the Women CEO program last week.
--Eva Coleman, Stephen Wright and the folks at NBC 5 who worked with the students in the Urban Journalism Workshop yesterday.  Their closing ceremony will be Sunday, May 3 at Lincoln High School at 4p.m.
