Liquid Lounge: Saturday at 11 AM

Join me on Saturday, April 5th at 11 AM for the weekend edition of Liquid Lounge.

We're going to begin to focus on reefbuilding, as we move toward the summer.

This is the International Year of the Reef, so Gary Levine has agreed to report on his progress with the newest project - a large-scale configuration of 13,000 vertical stacks of reef material that will spell out 'SAVE OUR REEFS' and be visible from the air.

He also has a less ambitious project in the works for the Miami Beach Wreck Trek, where he plans to connect a number of adjacent sites with stacks of 'living circles' to provide a path for divers to follow, as well as a place for fish to find shelter.

Perhaps the first marine artist to set up an underwater exhibit was Ross Power. He had a temporary exhibition in 30-feet of water near Key Largo in the late 1980s. Currently, Ross has a project called 'Focus' with a message about 'structural marine habitat' and putting art in an artificial reef. He has a display at the Biscayne Bay campus of Florida International University, between the School of Hospitality and the marina.

Gary and Ross are scheduled to call in during the show.
