Alert describes a person or thing extremely aware of what is going on with their surroundings, and is often ready to quickly respond. When someone is alert they are not in a slumber, or a passive non-participant, but rather are awake and functioning at an energetic level. When someone is alert, not only are they ready, but also they usually are expecting to receive vital information about what to do or expect. At the core of the word alert is taking action and warning people to be aware of something that has happened in the past, is presently occurring, or will happen in the future. There is a tremendous shift and refocusing in the Kingdom of God and like the sons of Issachar, Kingdom minded people must be on alert and discern the times where they are personally, congregationally, regionally and nationally. The people of God must be prepared to process life in a greater context beyond a message or a single event.
