Tonight 'EXPOSED' went... debate format. Seriously! Our self-assembled panel discussed the recording industry from three varied perspectives- the independent record store, the industry journalist and the good ol' fan. :) Thanks to Ken, Mike and Sterling for a great chat! SHOW NOTES:

    08/23/09 -

Abi and I hope you enjoyed listening to our special interview with lead singer of STYX tribute "Rockin' the Paradise", Jim Vignato. We certainly had a blast talking to him and look forward to hearing more from the group in the near future.

Of course, we also did an abbreviated version of our usual stuff too, so here's a rundown on the rest of the episode just in case you missed out:

    THE TUNES:
"I Am the Walrus" by Styx
    "Not Dead Yet" by Styx
"Come Sail Away - the epic mashup" by a half dozen different artists!
    ... specifically?
Eric Cartman ("Chef Aid"), Keali'i Reichel ("Kawaipunahele"), Me First & The Gimme Gimmes ("Ruin Johnny's Bar Mitzvah"), Tufts University Beelzebubs ("BOCA 2008"), SoCal VoCals ("Get In. Rock. Get Out.")

    CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:

    - Is Aerosmith breaking up? Worse yet, is Steven Tyler off the wagon? Say it ain't so! (No, really. We want you to say it's not true. It'll save us yet another week of talking about Aerosmith soap opera drama...)
    - KISS has announced the title of their new album- that would be "SONIC BOOM"... the lead single? "Modern Day Delilah". We also wished GENE SIMMONS a happy 60th birthday.
    - Paging Dr. Van Halen. Tony Iommi, on the road right now with HEAVEN & HELL, is in a bit of a spot. His hand is in pretty bad shape, so before heading in to surgery, he decided to consult Eddie Van Halen, who recently underwent hand surgery of his own. Here's hoping Eddie isn't the one *performing* the surgery...
    - I also quickly ran down all the latest new releases due out this fall- Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bon Jovi, Joe Perry and, of course, The Beatles ROCK BAND game is coming on, fittingly enough, 09/09/09.

    BIRTHDAYS THAT ROCK:
    - I sent out a general shout of love to ALL our birthday boys with a cover tune STYX performed on their 1990 'Edge of the Century' album (also a personal favorite song of our guest Jim)- "Not Dead Yet"!

    UNDER THE COVERS:

    - I told the 'covers' from Abi and surprised her with my uber-mashup of many differnt cover versions of that classic Styx tune, "Come Sail Away".

Don't miss out next week as we salute my adopted home state of New Jersey. We're promising Bon Jovi, Springsteen, Four Seasons & more Jersey-centric awesomeness! Capiche? ;-)

    Have a great week,
    Kay

    EP#50 - 08/30/09 - Rocking... New Jersey!

Tonight EXPOSED focused on all the awesome classic rockers who have come out of "The Garden State" over the years. We got yer Bon Jovi, yer Springsteen... and Aerosmith?? (Quick. Someone sing that 'one of these things is not like the other' song). News: Steven Tyler swears he's sober, Jacko would have been 51 and, uhm, if yer gonna sue Bon Jovi... sue for a SANE amount of money? $400 bill just sounds a bit excessive to us. Birthday of the Week: Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze)

  • Original Air Date:

    EP#49 - 08/23/09 - Rocking... The Paradise

Don't miss our exclusive interview with Jim Vignato- the lead singer and founder of NYC metro area STYX tribute band, "Rockin' the Paradise." With a gig coming up at BB King's Blues Club on August 27th, we picked his brain about all things Stygian! News: Is Steven Tyler drinking again? Does Eddie Van Halen have a future in medicine? And, most importantly, when can we get Beatles Rock Band, damnit??! Birthday of the Week: A general salute to those... "Not Dead Yet"!

  • Date / Time:

    08/16/09 - Show Notes

(yep, these notes are a week late... sorry! eeep.)

    SHOW NOTES:

    08/16/09 -

Whew. 40 years sure does fly, doesn't it? Especially when neither you or your cohost were actually THERE for the event in question. Hehe. Whoops.

Yeah. Abi & I were born in the mid-80s... waaaaay after the hippies did their 'thang in upstate, New York in the summer of '69, but we still spent our entire show tonight saluting all things WOODSTOCK!

Here's the stuff you missed if you were bein' a square and missed out, dude.

    THE TUNES:
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/
With a Little Help From My Friends" by The Beatles
"Tommy, Can You Hear Me?/Pinball Wizard" by The Who
    "White Room" by Cream

    KAY'S CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:
    - We lost a true guitar legend this week, Mr. Les Paul at the awesome age of 94. Talk about a full life! I don't think it's a stretch to say that without Les, we wouldn't have modern rock & roll, so we salute you sir. Rest in peace.
    - I went insane for about five minutes and ranted about COUNTRY artists Brooks & Dunn breaking up. I know... way to be waaaay off-topic, Kay. I can't help it, though. I grew up with those guys. *sniff*
    - Hard to believe, but Elvis Presley passed away 32 years ago. Damn. We miss "The King"... and his leather pants.
    - I rounded up the latest news from the world of The Beatles. Yoko is causing trouble (as always?) and Stella McCartney is being sued by Bono's wife??

    ABI'S CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:
    - It came as no surprise, but the boys of Aerosmith have officially called off the rest of their summer tour. We love Steven & the boys, but really... we think a good half-dozen "incidents" is God telling you to put your feet up until 2010.
    - Well, thank god. Slash & Steven Adler can breathe easier now that their mutual stalker is safely behind bars. She gets points for trying to save paper, though! Read her "lovely scribblings" HERE.
    - If you're going to be attending Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp, you have two kickass counselors! Ace Frehley of KISS and Meatloaf! Duuuude.
    - A new documentary called "It Might Get Loud" is hitting theaters. Limited release right now, but it's aiming for a wider release. Essentially, it's what happens when Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge get together for a mass jam session!

    BIRTHDAYS THAT ROCK:
    - We saluted the drumming god of CREAM- Ginger Baker!

    FUN & GAMES:
    - Do *you* know who played at Woodstock and who didn't? Test your knowledge!

    SOLDIER SALUTE:
    - Abi salutes your right to be a protester! It's true. Afterall, our country *was* founded by people who didn't agree with the government, right?

Aaaaand, that wraps up this week! Don't miss out next week as we sit down to chat with Jim Vignato, the lead singer & founder of NYC-based STYX tribute band, ROCKIN' THE PARADISE!

Catch ya next week. Dig it?
    - Kay

  • Original Air Date:

    EP#48 - 08/16/09 - Rocking & Woodstock-ing

It was 40 years ago that a bunch of long-haired folks descended on a rather large plot of farmland in Upstate, New York. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they partook in three days of music, merriment and... assorted... substances. 40 years later, Kay and Abi saluted 'em! News: Les Paul passed away this week, Elvis passed away 32 years ago tonight and Aerosmith... takin' a break before any other breaks happen TO them. Birthday of the Week: Ginger Baker (Cream)

  • Date / Time:

    08/09/09 - Show Notes

    SHOW NOTES:

    08/09/09 -

Hope your feet remained firmly planted under you this week- that puts you ahead of at least ONE major rock star we can think of... ;-)

Seriously, we ARE glad that Steven Tyler wasn't more seriously injured this week when he fell off the stage at Sturgis, but, uhm... c'mon. The irony of 'going down' during "Love in an Elevator"? You KNOW you're giggling too. It doesn't make you a bad person. It just makes you like Abi and me.

... whatever THAT says about you... ;)

Anyway, we talked about more than just poor Steven, I swear. Here's the proof:

    THE TUNES:
"Love in an Elevator" by Aerosmith
"Twist & Shout" by The Beatles
"Bungle in the Jungle" by Jethro Tull
"Aqualung" flute solo - Will Ferrell (?!)

    ABI'S CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:
    - It's that time, kids! KISS news rundown. Abi talked about Ace's "Anomaly", Gene's war of words with with Trent Reznor and... KISS bingo?
    - Oh Steven Tyler. Oh Aerosmith. Tsk, tsk, tsk. You guys must have the worst luck on the planet. We're starting to think that maybe somebody upstairs is telling you to sit out the rest of 2009.
    - Spinal Tap and the Folksmen are teaming up!! ... to release a DVD of the recent "Unwigged" tour. EXCELLENT!
    - AC/DC fans crashed the gates, climbed fences and wound up seeing the band for free! We're not recommending you DO THIS yourself though, kids. Putting yourself in danger isn't a great way to see your favorite band. We promise.

    KAY'S CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:
    - Bob Dylan is recording a Christmas album. I know it's a SMIDGE early for Christmas news, but hey! Start savin' yer pennies now kids, or at the very least you can start your list for Santa.
    - I teased the "Heroes of Woodstock" concert which will be happening in Bethel, NY on Saturday. 40 years ago, you didn't have to pay $69.00 to get in the doors, however... my, how the times they have a-changed.
    - Micky Dolenz's wife wound up coughing up a good chunk of change this week to avoid serving jail time for housing fraud. Naughty monkee wife, naughty!
    - John Hughes, director of those cult 80s teen films, "16 Candles", "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller" passed away this week from a sudden heart attack. I saluted him and sent my condolences out to his family and friends.

    BIRTHDAYS THAT ROCK:
    - Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)

    FUN & GAMES:
    - We played a quiz about famous "stage incidents"... a list that Mr. Tyler now officially get to join! Woohoo!
And, as promised, here's the link to the famous Alice Cooper "pineapple upside-down cake" incident. It really, truly did happen, folks. VH1 on 'The Coop Cake' or, if you want to see the full video, it's 4:00 in - HERE
Also, watch Axl Rose fall off the stage

    UNDER THE COVERS:

    - Staying with the Jethro Tull love, Abi played the "cover" of "Aqualung" which Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) performed in 2004's 'Anchorman'.

Next week you want to grab your beads, your tye-dye t-shirt and incense and join us here for our very special WOODSTOCK 40th ANNIVERSARY episode. We guarantee love, peace... and the usual Kay & Abi madness. :)

    See you then!
    - Kay

  • Original Air Date:

    EP#47 - 08/09/09 - Rockin'... A Midsummer Night's Jam!

**REBROADCAST** On this very rock-flute-filled episode of 'EXPOSED', Kay & Abi take inspiration from the misfortunes of Steven Tyler and chat about the assorted things that can go wrong in live rock performances. Immolation? Check. Lollipops? Check. Pineapple upside-down cake? Check! News: Dylan hears jingle bells, Spinal Tap is flipping their "wig" & Steven Tyler... goes boom. Epicly. Birthday of the Week: Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)
