Tonight 'EXPOSED' went... debate format. Seriously! Our self-assembled panel discussed the recording industry from three varied perspectives- the independent record store, the industry journalist and the good ol' fan. :) Thanks to Ken, Mike and Sterling for a great chat! 07/26/09 -

Wild and wacky week, but hey! THEME week! So I suppose that makes it okay. Tonight we featured Abi's home state of MICHIGAN and talked about all those killer Classic Rock stars it has produced over the years, (yep... even gave a little love to Motown because, dude, it's MOTOWN). What did you miss if you didn't tune in live?

    (So glad you asked...)

    THE TUNES:
    "Detroit City" by Alice Cooper
"Signed, Sealed Delivered" by Stevie Wonder
    "Fly By Night" by Rush

    ABI'S CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:

    - Black Sabbath's name is being used and abused a lot right now. Word to mechandise people- make sure you have the RIGHTS TO USE A BAND'S NAME before you actually DO SO, mm'kay? Thanks. Also, keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming horror movie series to be titled- you guessed it- BLACK SABBATH. The band won't be on screen, but hey. Still pretty rockin'.
    - SPINAL TAP borrowed STYX drummer Todd Sucherman (and miraculously returned him in one piece!) for both Jimmy Fallon's Late Show *and* Jon Stewart's Daily Show this week. At the time of our broadcast the appearances were still upcoming, but they've passed now... BUT! If you still want to check it out, take a peek via YouTube here for the Late Show and here for the Daily Show.
    - Sad 8 year old AC/DC fan is screwed over by "Canada's Biggest AC/DC Fan" contest. We ripped the organizers for... makin' small kids cry. Seriously. Like stealing candy from an... 8... year... old.
    - The man who assaulted another at an Alice Cooper concert with his artificial leg (seriously... can't make this stuff up, folks)... will not be charged.

    FUN AND GAMES:

    - Abi quizzed my fiance Packy on Michigan classic rock and, uhhh, yeeeeah. Things got better when I became his "Phone a Friend" *and* "Poll the Audience" life lines. Love you, honey.

    KAY'S CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:

    - Paul McCartney rocked us here in New York City, yes he did. And I... wasn't there. Grrrr. But our pal Lizzy *was* there and we played a leftover clip from her interview last week. She told us all about her amazing ticket-snagging ways- 18th row center! DAYUM.
    - I've made no bones about the fact that I disliked Michael Jackson. Still, I never expected him to pass away so suddenly and tragically. I'm sick of the media eating up every tidbit of Jackson news and think they should leave his poor kids the hell alone, so this was my final news update on Jacko.
    - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concerts have been set for this October in NYC at Madison Square Garden. It hasn't been 25 years yet by MY math... but whatever. Enjoy the concerts, everyone!

    BIRTHDAYS THAT ROCK:

    - Geddy Lee (Rush)

    UNDER THE COVERS:

    - Abi picked a fascinating cover of Bob Seger's "Fire Down Below". Who's covering it? BETTE MIDDLER. Seriously. Check it out.

Tune in next week as we're doing a special tribute to the greatest songwriting teams of Classic Rock. Yep. We're calling it "Rocking... Bromance" mostly because... well... it makes us giggle. We'll keep it clean, though.

Or, well, as clean as *we* get. ;-)

    See you Sunday at 6!

    EP#45 - 07/26/09 - Rocking... Michigan!

*** REBROADCAST *** We spent the ENTIRE episode talking about the great musical artists that have come out of Michigan! DETROIT ROCK CITY, BABY! We covered Motown, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, GFR... basically more Michigan than you could possibly fit in to 90 minutes, but we found a way, dangit! News: McCartney rocked Citi Field, Black Sabbath is going to the movies and the R&R HOF just can't... do math. At all. Birthday of the Week: Geddy Lee (Rush)

    07/19/09 - Show Notes

Well, Abi and I have been a bit lazy about cross-posting our show notes from our Myspace Page to here on BTR... time to correct that!

    ------------------------------------

    SHOW NOTES:

    07/19/09 -

Soooo, 80s fans... welcome to EXPOSED! We have quite a few new listeners to the show this week so I wanted to give a hello and I hope we didn't disappoint! We had an absolutely killer time interviewing Lizzy- #1 superfan of Broadway's "Rock of Ages." She gave us a lot of great insight in to what is quickly becoming one of the hottest tickets in New York, plus told us a bit about her ROA fansite "The Cry of the Strip" (http://www.thecryofthestrip.com). We presented two extended chat segments, sprinkled with a boatload of 80s nostalga.

So here's the stuff we covered besides our extensive interview:

    THE TUNES:
"Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO Speedwagon
"Boys of Summer" by Don Henley

    CLASSIC ROCK NEWS:
    - Ted Nugent doesn't like Obama. But what else is new?
    - VH1 and VH1 classic showed Def Leppard some love this week. Up next? Look for a special broadcast on August 21st from Bruce Springsteen's current and highly successful WORKIN' ON A DREAM tour.
    - Aerosmith are falling apart. Owie. No sooner is Steven Tyler back in shape then Tom Hamilton is down for the count with "non-invasive surgery" complications.

    BIRTHDAYS THAT ROCK:
    - Don Henley (The Eagles)

    SOLDIER SALUTE:
    - Abi backed up to give a very well-deserved salute to a recent WWII veteran who passed away- Darrel "Shifty" Powers. Yes, his life was immortalized in 'Band of Brothers', but his death has been lost amidst the rush of recent celebrity deaths (Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Billy Mays). Neglecting him is a real crime and we did our best to correct that tonight.

Again, we're thrilled that so many new listeners have come over to hear our interview with Lizzy! Now, don't run away though... next week we're going to be doing our entire episode as a salute to MICHIGAN and the great rock music that has come from the state! Abi, our resident Michigander, will be taking the lead and I'll do my best to follow with my own little nod to the great legends of Motown. :-)

Have a great week! See you Sunday at 6pm EST!

    - Kay

  • Original Air Date:

    EP#44 - 07/19/09 - Rocking... The 80s Strikes Back!

On our *second* night saluting all things 80s rock, we talked about the Broadway hit "Rock of Ages" and interviewed the show's SUPERFAN Lizzy! (check out 'The Cry of the Strip' fansite which she runs! http://www.thecryofthestrip.com ) News Covered: Ted Nugent, Aerosmith and VH1 will be featuring a lot of classic rockers! Birthdays That Rock: Don Henley (The Eagles)

  • Original Air Date:

    EP#43 - 07/12/09 - Rocking... 'Double' Trouble

Sooo... there's something of a hidden theme in this episode. Can you figure it out? Let's just say sometimes what our favorite classic rock bands *REALLY* mean in their songs can be found... between the lines. News: Aerosmith has to cancel more dates due to injury, KISS has released the names of three new songs and Uncle Ted is giving us a head start... Birthday of the Week: Mick Tucker (Sweet)

  • Original Air Date:

    EP#42 - 07/05/09 - Rocking... We Can't Stop!!

**REBROADCAST from Sunday night!** After a crazy week of rock, Kay and Abi return to tell you ALLLL about the insanity that was *two* STYX/REO Speedwagon "Can't Stop Rockin'" dates plus a Guiness Book of World Records-setting day at Broadway's "Rock of Ages"! News: Jacko's funeral & will, Aerosmith's current tour is cursed... and might ABBA and Zeppelin step in for the O2 arena's schedule hole? Birthday of the Week: Ringo Starr (The Beatles)
