Yoga & Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief - Why Yoga Helps

Carpal Tunnel Radio - Thursday April 30, 2009

Yoga instructor Rebekah Powers from Oxford, Ohio, was our guest today.  Rebekah's been teaching yoga and workshops on relaxation, breathing and stress relief for 35 years.

The National Institutes of Health Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Fact Sheet listed yoga as the third alternative therapy.  The Fact Sheet says:  "Accupuncture and chiropractic care have benefited some patients but their effectiveness remains unproved.  An exception is yoga, which has been shown to reduce pain and improve grip strength among patients with carpal tunnel syndrome."

Rebekah explained contraindications--who should not do yoga.  She talked about stress and breathing and how to find an instructor.

Rebekah said: "Your body is your instructor."  She advises beginners to start in a beginners' class rather than struggling in advanced classes without the background.

Being a well-rounded person, is also a photographer & artist.  Rebekah has a wonderful website which demonstrates the beauty of nature in ways you have never seen before.  You can find her site at http://www.SurroundingsFineArt.com

Listen at http://www.CarpalTunnelRadio.com and discover the benefits of yoga for carpal tunnel pain relief.
