Yoga & Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief - Why Yoga Helps

Carpal Tunnel Radio - Thursday April 30, 2009

Yoga instructor Rebekah Powers from Oxford, Ohio, was our guest today.  Rebekah's been teaching yoga and workshops on relaxation, breathing and stress relief for 35 years.

The National Institutes of Health Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Fact Sheet listed yoga as the third alternative therapy.  The Fact Sheet says:  "Accupuncture and chiropractic care have benefited some patients but their effectiveness remains unproved.  An exception is yoga, which has been shown to reduce pain and improve grip strength among patients with carpal tunnel syndrome."

Rebekah explained contraindications--who should not do yoga.  She talked about stress and breathing and how to find an instructor.

Rebekah said: "Your body is your instructor."  She advises beginners to start in a beginners' class rather than struggling in advanced classes without the background.

Being a well-rounded person, is also a photographer & artist.  Rebekah has a wonderful website which demonstrates the beauty of nature in ways you have never seen before.  You can find her site at http://www.SurroundingsFineArt.com

Listen at http://www.CarpalTunnelRadio.com and discover the benefits of yoga for carpal tunnel pain relief.

How to Relieve Stress & Fix Posture for Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief

    Welcome to http://www.Carpal Tunnel Radio.com, April 23, 2009

My very knowledgeable guest today was Gini Maddocks, author of R & R: Rescue and Relief for Computer Users and Those at Risk of Repetitive Motion Injury (RMI).  Among other things, Gini reminded us how to talk to ourselves in a positive way.

Rather than stick ourselves in a little bent-over box,  she explained how we can break out of that box by changing our self-talk.

You might think I'm always harping about posture.  You're right.  Why do I do that?

Because posture makes such a huge difference in your well-being.  Having strong posture--not being muscle bound--but having a strong back side will prevent so much pain including carpal tunnel issues.  You can find lots about simple ways to get a strong back easily at http://www.SimpleStrengthening.com

I used to have terrible posture.  I carried my head WAY in front of my body AND had scoliosis (curvature of the spine.)  I also used to have a lot of pain.  My future would have been grim if I hadn't learned about the causes of my pain and taken the steps I had to take to get rid of it.

When we don't correct something that gravity is related to (our posture) it just gets worse and worse over time.

Gini also talked about her personal example of polio and how she had to talk to herself.  She did what she had to do, wearing corrective shoes, to get to the point she's at today.

YOU need to do what you have to do, also.  When you understand causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or other hand/arm and understand how to correct those causes, well, that's what you need to do.

As the saying goes, "You can't hire someone to do your sit-ups for you."  (Uh...not that I advocate sit-ups.)

So, join us and discover some interesting causes of pain and postural dysfunctions that you would not expect!

Your body wants to be well, it just needs a little more help from you.  So, listen to the replay and find out how you can get carpal tunnel pain relief.

Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief & Benefits of Good Posture

Natural Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief Techniques

    Carpal Tunnel Radio - April 16, 2009

Today's episode covered several self-help techniques and lots of explanations about WHY we get carpal tunnel symptoms (and how to get rid of them.)

I talked about the benefits of posture and a strong back.  You can discover how to get a strong back simply at http://www.SimpleStrengthening.com  Why do you want a strong back?  Because a weak back causes carpal tunnel and other pain syndromes and symptoms.

We also talked about heat therapy, where to apply heat for the most benefit, and how and why it helps...or doesn't.

And, massage.  Massage is one of my very favorite things to talk about because it is such an awesome natural cure!

My sponsor today was http://www.PainReliefErgonomics.com  They'll show you how to work without pain at your computer.

The replay is always up at http://www.CarpalTunnelRadio.com

Remember:  Pain always happens for a reason.  Carpal Tunnel Syndrome happens for a reason.  Let's get rid of the reason.

Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief, Causes, Cures, National Institutes of Health Report

Today's Carpal Tunnel Radio guest was Elizabeth Eckert, an expert in many, many things that all affect our bodies!

She is the author of "Word Cures: How to Keep Stupid Excuses from Sobotaging Your Health" and also "Stress in the Backgroung: How to Thrive in a High-Stress World."

    Elizabeth's website is http://www.WordCures.com

Elizabeth answered questions about the causes and help for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other hand-wrist-arm symptoms.  She explained trigger points--what causes them, what they are, and what they do.  And, more!

She believes the first step for someone with carpal tunnel issues is to do whatever you can to correct your posture.  Why?  Because poor or collapsed posture (also called forward head posture) is a major cause of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

After Elizabeth left us, I spent the second half of the show expanding on the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Fact Sheet from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health.

You know, I love doctors and medicine, but so often they just plain overlook the roles of muscles and soft tissues in pain syndromes.

There's a ton of information in this one-hour show and I did it just for you!

Join us at http://www.CarpalTunnelRadio.com on Thursday April 16 at noon EST when we talk more Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief.
