Shaun poses this: Mars is the best place for human settlement - but we should still go to the Moon first. He writes: Mars has more potential for humanity than any other astronomical body than we know of. Life could exist there. Mars is right on the edge of the so-called “goldilocks zone,” a zone that every star system has where water can exist in a liquid phase, and therefore life could exist. Mercury and Venus are much too hot. Planets farther out than Mars, the gas giants and their moons, and the asteroids, are too cold. On top of this, Mars offers numerous related advantages for human colonists. Mars has all the elements required for biological life and technological civilization. It has plenty of water, frozen as permafrost, glaciers and ice sheets. It has an abundance of all the CHNOPS elements, which are necessary for life. It has an abundance of silicon and metals for making things like tools, buildings, vehicles, computers and robots. Mars has multiple options for producing energy. Sustainable options include solar, wind and geothermal. It also has thorium, one of the best fuels for nuclear fission. Politicians allowed that to pass. You think I am wrong. Do these rules affect the viability of local businesses in every county U.S.A. The Founding Fathers were very clear and U.S Constitution we should be living by is a document of their wisdom. The American local business environment should be every elected officials concern as the U.S. government is in debt 14 trillion dollars and long term unemployment soars. We can cut benefits and cut all the entitlements but that does not answer the problem. The problem is that a true free market cannot exist with China, Russia and the sovereign nations acting as state capitalists.  GATT and NAFTA are almost 20 years old and our economy has not expanded. It shrank. Exporting investments to the BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India and China) have not grown the U.S economy.  I say give incentives to private money and reduce the regulations related to the space industry in the U.S and this can still be "the American Century."
