More than 14 years ago officials of the Newark New Jersey Police Department unlawfully terminated Darren Nance. A Federal Jury, after deliberating the evidence presented, ruled that Darren Nance was terminated unlawfully. This illegal termination cost Newark taxpayers in excess of 2 million dollars. Nevertheless, no police official was sanctioned for his or her involvement in, or inability to detect this unlawful termination. Additionally, no failsafe procedure has been put in place to make certain no other police officer would be terminated unlawfully. Still, despite a Newark Municipal Council resolution forbidding the spending of any additional funds to oppose Nance’s reinstatement, the Newark Police Department is still objecting to the reinstatement of Darren Nance.
