In 1980 the red wolf was declared officially extinct in the wilds of America. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service several hundred remain in captivity and additional reintroduced population of 50 or so roam parts of North Carolina. The question is did they ever really die out and are their surviving ancestors planning a comeback?
