New York Hip Hop - Can NY Make a Comeback??

Greetings all and welcome to another blog installment from Juice Radio!! Oh yes, and this one is definitely close to my heart. Join us on Sunday, January 25th at 6:00PM as we chit chat with special guest Michael Partis (http://michaelpartis.blogspot.com) of "Real Talk New York".

Being that I grew up in New York, I would be lying if I said that Hip Hop is not near and dear to my heart, I often reminisce about the “good’ hip hop that provided the soundtrack to my youth. Music that made you move, music that made you think, music that motivated, and music that spoke my truth and the truth of the urban communities.

Hip Hop as a culture and Rap music is now a product of the corporate machine – just straight garbage. It is either bubble gum rap or thuggery, which are small parts of Hip Hop, but not all! The lyrics that actually made sense, and had a message and made you move your ass are not appreciated or respected. As long as the beat is hot, and the lyrics are talking about f*#$king b%$#@es, killing, moving weight and other ignorant ish – the corporations eat it up! Package it and tell the masses, this is a reflection of the “urban” community.

I hope that the Hip Hop I fell in love with will return soon, but until than I have my memories (and a bunch of mix tape cassettes I created as a teen) to hold me down! Check us out, Sunday, January 25th with Michael Partis of "Real Talk New York".

    Until Than, Peace
