Are You Born Gay or Do You Choose To Be Gay?

Miz D! and “Real Talk Now” at Juice Radio, we definitely rant, rave, make you laugh, make you think and make you want to come back for more! Well, our upcoming show will cover the ever controversial issue of “Are You Born Gay, or Did You Choose To Be Gay”. Check it out, Thursday July 24th at 7:30PM.

I will just jump right into it, my personal opinion on this issue is  - that in most cases people are born gay. I say this because, obviously being gay/homosexual is not the social norm in any society, it is considered abnormal, a disgrace, and even an abomination. People in the gay/homosexual community encounter much hatred, discrimination and attack for their lifestyle – so with that said, why in the world would a person purposely choose the gay lifestyle?

Look at the number of people who hide their truth, and “force” themselves to live a “normal” heterosexual lifestyle. Look at Rock Hudson, who in his later years of life finally revealed that he was gay, or Howard Rollins from the popular television show “In The Heat of The Night”. Both of these talented actors hid their gay lifestyle, because they feared the backlash and possible losing their careers. Unfortunately both these gentlemen died of AIDS. Even in recent news, Governor of New Jersey Jim McGreevy is facing backlash for coming out the closet!

Now, I do believe that there are some people who choose to be gay, because they have “exhausted” or grown tired of the opposite sex and need a “new” way to get off. Or because being bisexual or gay is the new, trendy, popular thing to do. I personally think these cases are far and in between. My co host, “Real Talk Now” feels differently from I, he feels that people “acquire” the gay lifestyle – which is ultimately choosing to be gay. His stance is people have a choice, knowing that being gay/homosexual comes with a host of problematic issues, than it is up to that individual to conform to being “normal”, in other words heterosexual.

This issue is forever at the center of controversy, we will try to deep and get some answers, and possible come to a consensus on this. Check us out and join the discussion Thursday July 24th 7:30PM.

Until than peace and take care!

The DL, Black Women and AIDS

Here at Juice Radio, we definitely like to mix it up, keep it fresh, educate and entertain all at once! Our upcoming show will cover a topic on the tips of everybody’s tongue – “The DL, Black Women and Aids”. Check it out Thursday, July 17th 7:30PM.

What was referred to as a “Gay White Man’s” disease in the 80’s and 90’s is now a “Black Woman’s Disease” just a short twenty some odd year later. And the major transmission of the infection to black women is through heterosexual sexual activity. So – what is the deal? People of color and specifically women of color are the most afflicted by this epidemic.

In the US, there is an abundance of education and preventative actions people can use to protect themselves – yet there is no decline in the rate of infection among blacks. So what is wrong with this picture?

Now, I am totally against blaming gays for the spread of this disease, nor do I believe  labeling HIV/Aids as strictly a crisis in the gay community is right either. But I do place the blame on irresponsible people, dishonest people and those who are reckless – regardless of sexual orientation.

Being a transplant to Atlanta, all I ever heard was “Be careful – you know Atlanta is a hot bed of HIV” or “Make sure you get your partners tested”. Now of course, you should get your partners tested regardless of what city you live in. HIV/Aids is a major issue throughout the United States and the world – but now that I am living in Atlanta, I do see how prevalent it is.  In the black community – we have so many old fashioned taboos and unstable, healthy relationships, which cause people, specifically women to make bad decisions.

Case in point – I have a few female acquaintances that will knowingly engage in unprotected sex with men who have been in jail, men who have a history of reckless behavior or men who just refuse to use a condom. And the kicker is, when I ask “Did you get him tested” the answer is usually NO!!

Than, we have men in our community who sleep with men, but do not consider themselves gay or bisexual – and than carry on sexual relationships with women, but will not disclose their sexual activities or history. Basically being dishonest and selfish!

There are so many dynamics, taboos, internal and external factors that are effecting our community and JuiceRadio will explore this topic in depth and try to offer some solutions and answers to this serious issue.

Until than, peace and take care!

Swingers - What is the Deal?

Greetings to all, and welcome to yet another blog from JuiceRadio – where we rant an rave! Check out our upcoming show on Thursday June 26th 7:30PM. We will be discussing “Swingers” and the whole swingers’ culture. It’s gonna be very juicy.

When it comes to the whole swinging culture and phenomenon, I would have to say that it is definitely not for me, but I don’t knock those who engage and participate. In my opinion, sex is or at least should be - if not the highest, a strong connection and reflection of intimacy. So, sex should be shared between two loving people – but again, that is just my opinion! I don’t knock the swingers.

I look at sex in a few different scopes – of course from a physical perspective, it feels good. On an emotional level, sex is reflective of a healthy relationship and affection - it is the exchange of energy. So my question is, why would a man or woman want to share that form of connectivity with others? Why would they want to exchange energy with strange people? Just for the shear pleasure of the physical act. Another question to the swingers is what is lacking in your current relationship that led you to seek having group sex or exchanging partners?

As I stated, I am just an outsider looking in, so I am ignorant to the culture. But in a day and age of HIV/Aids and other diseases, the break down of healthy, stable relationships and managing families – what do swingers get out of that lifestyle?

I will just keep it plain, the ultimate goal in sex is to climax and please your partner, so why seek a different partner if you are going to achieve the same goal?

My co host and I will chop it up on this juicy topic, get some feed back from actually swingers and just try to figure out what is the deal with the swingers!!

Until than, peace and take care!
