Peter Goral interviews Copa Di Vivino James Martin.
James Martin is a native Oregonian and grew up in The Dalles, located just below the Columbia Basin of the world-renowned Columbia Gorge. He is a 7th generation farmer whose family owned cherry farms, and his family’s farms grew to become one of the largest cherry producers in the Pacific Northwest.
James appearance on ABC’s, Shark Tank. James’ Season 2 appearance is still one of the highest viewed segments of the series. With no Shark investment Copa Di Vino went from 500,000 in dollars in sales when the launched in 2009 to more than 14 million in 2014.
He made history when the producers asked him to return to Shark Tank. During his second appearance, he and the Sharks continued the conversation in heated discussions. In the end, James chose to walk away as he felt the Sharks’ goals were not aligned with his vision for Copa. “Stick to your vision, know your plan, know your business, and know your game."
