McManus’s poems can be quirky, sometimes funny, sometimes quite dark, often both at the same time. In 2006 McManus was the winner of the South Carolina Poetry Book Prize contest. His book, _Driving Through the Country Before You Are Born_, was selected by Southern poet Kate Daniels and published by USC Press in 2007. McManus’s second full-length collection, _Red Dirt Jesus_, was selected by nationally renowned poet and critic Alicia Ostriker as the winner of the Marick Press Poetry Prize in 2010.
