    Vetern's day parade

This morning it is 37 degrees outside and we are due to ride in the Veteran's day parade with the Brownie troop.  Those little girls are going to freeze their hiney's off.  At least I will be walking alongside the float, so I can keep warm from moving so fast.

When we come home we will have some lunch and then my dear dad is coming over and we are going to take out the garage door and build a wall where the door was.  It's going to be complete with windows and everything.   Over the weeks I have slowly purchased all the supplies and now they are all bought, except for the sheet rock.  I only have 6 sheets for now, but will get more once the wiring is finished.  I did buy all the insulation, and that was a big chunk of the expense.

When all is done, we will have a much needed added 175 square foot usable living space.  We are going to have a new music room and library.  Since the rest of our house is only 800 square foot for 4 people, it seems to shrink daily and this will be a place we get away.

I already know, we have to do much more decluttering.  That is in the works too.  We have to take everything out for putting up the wall and the sheetrock, so that makes the decluttering that much more easy.

Baby steps.  This whole project has been the product of baby steps.  What a wonderful lesson that is.

    Christmas list

My mother suggested that for Christmas, she doesn't want clutter, she only wants stuff she can eat or use.  She suggested us kids buy her toilet paper or a gun for Christmas.  She already has a collection of guns, and a stockpile of toilet paper. Maybe I'll buy her a lovely blouse instead.

    Dryer hazard

Yesterday I cleaned out the dryer inside and out, including the lint trap and vent hose.  I cleaned the floor under and behind both the washer and dryer and then scooted them back in to where I thought they were before.  When I dried the dog beds this morning, I smelt something funny, so I checked it out.  It wasn't the dog beds I smelled, it was the plastic vent hose melting.  I had pushed the dryer back too far and the hose was up against the back of the dryer and it melted.

So, the moral of the story is.............don't ever clean behind your dryer!

I am off to the hardware store this afternoon to see if I can find some kind of metal non-melting dryer hose.  I also scooted the dryer out a bit.

I guess all those words of dryer fires were true.

    NEW ROUTINES

School has started again.  The beginning of the new year brings new promises of fun, adventure and learning new things.  It brings new friends and classmates and challenges.  Its an exciting time.  It also brings new routines.

For some of us, change is never easy.  Our family is no exception to that rule.  We happily hopped in the car bound for class this morning, but after our return, what then?  What would be the most productive way to spend the day?  Something has got to be better than these circles I have been walking in.

When we get used to having things a certain way and all of the sudden they are different.  What are we to do.  We change with them.  We adapt.  And that takes some time.  One of these days this new routine is going to be what we are used to.  We just have to hold on until then.
