  An Open Letter to America's Churches (Your Silent Scream of Compliance)

  Dear Pastor, Deacon, Reverend, Elder, Father, Priest, or Member;

  I challenge you to read this letter to your congregation this Saturday/Sunday (which ever is your Day of Worship), and then get back to me at the email address below.

  Your silence in the face of the atrocities being committed by the United States on a daily basis throughout the world is a Silent Scream ofCompliance.
  The blood of innocent men women and children being butchered in the name of Peace, Justice and the American Way is on your hands and the hands of your congregation.  Your inaction in this time of moral crisis is complicity at the highest levels.  How dare you call yourselves 'Christian' or whatever word you have chosen for your Belief Set when the United States at this very moment is torturing innocents, denying food and medicine to the needy, imprisoning without charge thousands upon thousands; and  spending billions on weapons of mass destruction and terror.

  Look into your collection plates this Day of Worship and read the dollar bills; 'In God We Trust'.  Make that your prayer, your mantra.  Your Savior, whom many of you choose to call Jesus, dealt with the money changers that crowded the temple in a very direct way.  I suggest you re-read that section and I also suggest you re-read the Ten Commandments; they are Commandments not Suggestions.  One of them is 'Thou Shalt Not Kill'.

  'Thou Shalt Not Kill'; fairly simple and straightforward.  It does not say 'Thou Shalt Not Kill With the Exception of the Following'.  It says nothing about 'Thou Shalt Not Kill, But to Send F-16's laden with cluster bombs to drop on Innocents is OK'.  No, it says 'Thou Shalt Not Kill'. Period.  End of that discussion and the beginning of a 'New Dialogue' among the People of this Earth.  Our Government refuses to begin this 'New Dialogue' as does the United Nations.  It is up to us, the Citizens of this Planet called Earth.

  I suggest you drape a banner over the entrance of you House of Worship that says simply 'Stop The Killing'.  Imagine thousands upon thousands of places of worship in the US and across Europe with that simple slogan hanging from their front door, 'Stop the Killing'.  Imagine every overpass in this Great Nation draped with a banner that reads simply 'Stop the Killing'. Imagine 'Stop the Killing' in place of ridiculous billboards that try and sell you things you don't need and probably can't afford.  You don't need a new car, you need a New Vision.   You in the pulpit have chosen to Follow Your God, you in the Congregation have chosen to follow in the way of Jesus, to follow Your God as you may understand Him or Her.  I say this, Jesus does not bless your F-16's nor does He bless your Silence.

  There is no problem so great,no problem so difficult, no problem so complex, that we can not as educated men and women regardless of our belief system; sit down at a Table of Peace and work out our differences.  We don't have to all agree, but we do have to,' Stop the Killing'.  We must stop the slaughter of innocents, we must stop this River ofBlood that has become our Planet.

  Forget about your 'building fund', there are certainly more than enough Houses of Worship here in the US and abroad.  Start focusing your energies on our Government.  Stop looking the other way as the body count mounts in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Central and South America, in Gaza.  Have the courage to stand up in your pulpit each and every day until the killing stops and say in your pious pompous voice 'And this week, we the United States slaughtered 10,000 human beings', or whatever the body count might be that week.'  Show the world what you are made of.  Show the world the God you Serve is a Mighty God indeed and regardless of our differences we can and we will learn to live in Peace.
