The Importance of Voice

John was born in 1970 and raised in Devon (in the UK). He moved to Hampshire just before his eleventh birthday. When he left school he eventually worked in the building trade, and after many years he started his own business. He did this for a few years but in the end ill health forced him to stop. Then, not long after, he had a break down ending up in one of his first stays in hospital. Afterwards he became aware of a child hood he didn't know about (through having what he later found out was a mental block). He didn't receive the help he should have from the health service sadly, and after years of this he started to complain and then campaign on child abuse awareness issues. Amongst all this he started to write again, having stopped for years, and in 2010 he published his first book 'Whispers From Within'. He's been on the radio with his poetry and the issues above. Much of John's poetry raises awareness of child abuse and its consequences in later life. Something John feels very strongly about. He's been published a few times, read his poetry to the public (including at two anti child abuse rallies held in London in both 2009 and 2010). He's trying to add to this all the time. He's now also well on his way to his second book, which will be completed in 2012.
