April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Joe Hackman interviews Kathrina Rashid, M.A., Ph.D. an active board member of Bay Area Women Against Rape or BAWAR. BAWAR, the nation's first rape crisis center, was formed in 1971 to provide 24-hour comprehensive services for survivors of sexual assault and their significant others. Guest Bio. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Kathrina Lambright Rashid received a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University in 1998, and a doctorate in psychology from Saybrook University in 2009. For her doctoral research, she conducted a psychometric analysis of a psychological test instrument for cultural, socioeconomic and educational bias against Latinos. For that study, she worked with approximately 200 Latino former gang members to adapt the instrument and make it applicable for use among that population. Kathrina’a interests include cultural issues in psychology and research, and she specializes in providing psychotherapeutic services to individuals and families across a range of cultural and ethnic groups. She has provided consultation to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office regarding cross-cultural aspects of sexual assault and domestic violence, and worked with local private attorneys on the cultural aspects of their cases. In addition to writing many papers on cross-cultural clinical applications, Kathrina is currently co-writing a book on the subject. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology, the Association of Psychological Science, and the North Carolina Coalition against Domestic Violence, and serves on the board of Bay Area Women Against Rape, and her own community outreach program. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.
