    The Lock of Hair

$0 $0$0The other morning while I was in the kitchen preparingbreakfast and my 5 year old daughter came in and said “mommy, don’t watch whatI am doing”. I responded by saying “ok honey”. She then walked in a few minuteslater and said “Mommy remember when I was at grandma’s and the barber cut myhair (I didn’t have the heart to tell her that is was a beautician, boys go tobarber’s)” I said “yes my sweet”, well I really liked it and I responded bytelling her “that’s great honey”. By the end of day she said to me, “mommy I’vegot to tell you something,” I said to her “well what is it honey?” She said “Icut my hair today”. I started looking at her hair and I couldn’t really seewhat she had done, I thought it couldn’t be that bad. Then I asked her wheredid she put the hair, she then walked me into her room she reached into theback of her closet and pulled out a lock of hair.  I then asked where the scissors were; she then showed me thescissors.  She said, “Mommy are youupset with me?” I said, “of course not sweetheart, I just thought you lovedyour beautiful long hair, you can do whatever you want with it.” She said, “Mommy,I just wanted my hair to look beautiful like yours”. I was touched with herbeautiful honesty. I said “can we make a deal, in the future can you let canyou let the lady at the beauty salon cut your hair and not you” Sheagreed.  I told my husband whathappened, at first he was traumatized and wanted to get to the bottom ofthis.  I asked him to not talk toher and that we were able to talk it out. At that point I remembered I had a lock of hair stashed away in mydrawer of when I decided to cut my own hair when I was 5 years old.  I went into my drawer and showed mydaughter what my hair looked like. We both giggled and looked at the differencesin our hair.  $0$0 $0$0My parenting philosophy and approach are much different thenwhat I received as a child; I would have been berated, shamed and punished forcutting my hair.  There would havebeen no discussion of what took place. And then I learned tools like lying, deviousness, guilt and shame. I want my daughter to know she was choices andconsequences. I also want her to know that coming to mommy will always be asafe place. There will be NO shouting or scolding.  I am responsible for co-creating the life of this humanbeing and creating a safe environment for her, physically, emotionally andspiritually. My job as a parent is to give her tools to be a responsible humanbeing not only to the world but also to herself. I am choosing to do this bygiving her permission to experience her feelings and how to manage them inappropriate and instinctual way.$0

    If Not Now, When?

    If not now, when?

Are you one of these people who are waiting for the righttime to take action in your life? Did you ever think you might be getting inthe way of “you”? If you really dig deep the reason why you probably aren’ttaking action is because of the dreaded “f” word…..FEAR. It’s perfectly fine tohave feelings of fear. Change and stepping out into the unknown can be scary. Our internal alarm system will go off and all our past issues and voices in ourhead will start to resurrect themselves. Like “what are you thinking”, “it’snot the right time”, “where are you going to get the money”, “you can’t dothat”, or “where are you going to get the money”. This is our internal survivalmechanism it’s there to protect us. One of our biggest jobs is to make surethis “survival system” does not control our lives completely. It’s there for areason.  It’s our internal checksand balances.

The problem is, f we don’t take control of this it canresult in anger, frustration and resentment in your life. Life will feel like achore. You have to remember that although we might be adults we must be awarethere still lies a child underneath our adult skin. It’s perfectly human towant to look forward to something. It’s not a selfish thing; it’s a self-carething. We need a challenge, a reward, it makes life worth living.  When we don’t get in agreement with our“inner-child”, it will start to leak into our every area of our livesespecially our health.

    Suggestion:

    1.  Write down what is that “thing” you’ve been wanting to do (Itcould be a vacation, a training, remodeling, etc).

    2.  Now write what’s standing in your way.

    3.  Now write down a baby step strategy to make this come to intoyour reality.

    4.  Now share it with a “healing witness” this person is someonewho you trust and is on your team.

Keep moving forward!!!!!! You have more power than you know.

Remember “It’s Never Too Late to Reclaim Your Life”,
