Juvenile Justice Matters  

Susan Broderick is the Project Director for Georgetown University's Center for Juvenile Justice Reform, a MacArthur Foundation Models for Change Initiative. Susan's work focuses on supporting the active participation of prosecutors in the Models for Change reform efforts. This support includes providing training and technical assistance to prosecutors within the four core states, as well as disseminating information and providing outreach to prosecutors nationally on the Models for Change reform efforts. Joining us this week is Dwayne Betts, a formerly incarcerated youth, spokesman for the Campaign for Youth Justice and author of the new book, "A Question of Freedom." Dwayne's book is about his experience being charged as an adult for a crime at the age of 16, the nine-year prison sentence he served surrounded by some of the worst criminals in the state of Virginia, and how he has turned his life around. "A Question of Freedom" is a coming-of-age story of how Dwayne decided to become more than a statistic. Dwayne's book is being published by Penguin Books and will hit stores this August.
