Our amazing guest host, Fadia Bascom, talks with Dave Jordano and John Carlisle about the poverty in America, specifically Detroit.

Dave Jordano is an award-winning documentary photographer based in Chicago, IL. Jordano has exhibited widely and his work is in several private, corporate and museum collections, most notably The Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.  His current project, Detroit: Unbroken Down, will be released in the fall of 2015.  It documents the cultural and societal identity of his hometown, Detroit, with the intent of showing a human side to the city.

Since 2007, John Carlisle has fascinated readers with his untold stories of Detroit in his "Detroitblogger John" column for the Metro Times. His words and photographs shed light on the overlooked and forgotten while bringing life to neglected, far-flung neighborhoods. The Detroit chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists named Carlisle the 2011 Journalist of the Year for his work on the city. He’s also the author of 313:  Life in the Motor City.
