Over the last few days, by now, you may have seen the 6-minute YouTube video of Sara Kruzan who, at the age of sixteen, was sentenced to “life without the possibility of parole” on a first-degree murder charge. As fate would have it, at the tender age of eleven, this former Riverside, CA honor roll student, raised by an abusive and drug-addicted mother, met a 31-year-old pimp known as G.G. Gradually winning over Sara’s confidence with gifts and sweet talk, by the time she was thirteen, G.G. was having sex with her. When he began methodically grooming Sara for a life of prostitution, forcing her to peddle her body every evening from sun down to sun up, along with the job came the turbulence of his repeated physical, sexual and verbal abuse.
Sara suffered from G.G.’s assaults over a three-year period until, one day, it all came to an abrupt halt, when she snapped and shot him to death. Charged as an adult, Sara remorsefully admitted that she deserved to be punished for taking G.G.’s life. It is the severity of the judge’s sentencing, however, that has made this, now 31-year old woman a topic that Jay King, Robert Redwine and our correspondent, Michael Harris, will examine today on “The Way I See It.”
In this country, there are nearly 2,500 children under the age of 18, serving “life without parole” sentences; 227 of whom are being held in California’s prison system. The rest of the world, combined, can lay claim to twelve. Please join us in our chat room and, if you would like to share your point-of-view on this topic, call us at 347-205-9366.

If you have been with us for the last five weeks, by now, you have learned a lot about the life of our guest, Michael Harris. While this is the final episode of our series, it is important that we, at “The Way I See It,” acknowledge the admiration that we have for this man who, during the 22 years of his incarceration, has not wavered in his resolve to affect positive change; not only in his life, but in those of others who share his condition. The ups and downs of Michael’s life should teach us all how easy it is to straddle the line between right and wrong, and the blessings and penalties that can be exacted, based simply on the choices we elect to make.
Before we conclude this series with Michael, we would like to take time out to honor him as he is celebrating his birthday, today. On behalf of Jay King, Robert Redwine and “The Way I See It” family, we would like to extend a most heartfelt wish to you, Michael, for a Happy Birthday, with many, many more to come; hopefully, as a free man.
If any of you would like to wish Michael a “Happy Birthday,” say ‘hello,’ or let him know what his dialogue with us has meant to you, call us at 347-205-9366. And, if you’re in our chat room and would like to post a message, which will be read over the air to Michael, please feel free to do that. Remember, however, to gain access to “The Way I See It” chat room, you must sign up at www.blogtalkradio.com with a user name and password, before logging onto the show.

Michael Harris, who has been a guest on “The Way I See It” during the last four weeks, will be with us again, tomorrow, to talk about his life, before and during his incarceration. Last week, we all had been anticipating the Commission of the Board of Parole Hearing’s decision as to whether Michael would finally be released from the custody of the California State prison system. After serving an already excessive twenty-two years of a 28-years-to-life sentence, disappointingly, on September 3rd, the day Michael’s hearing was to take place, the commission ran overtime with other scheduled inmate hearings. As a result, the decision about Michael’s future was delayed until some time, this coming week.
Although, only two weeks of our series remains with Michael Harris, we are happy to tell you that Michal will be joining “The Way I See It” family as a regular correspondent on various issues that adversely affect our communities and youth. We believe the same messages, he instills in his fellow inmates, can be parlayed into empowering any young boy or girl within our communities, who are making poor decisions that can affect the rest of their lives. We want to encourage and support our youth into believing that there are positive alternatives in life. They must, however, be willing to make such sacrifices as staying in school, staying out of gangs, saying no to drugs, and challenging themselves into visualizing their dreams and reaching towards their loftiest of goals until they achieve their highest potential. If you would like to gain access to our chat room, you must sign up at www.blogtalkradio.com with a user name and password, before logging onto the show. You can also feel free to call us to share the ‘way you see it’ with Jay King, Robert Redwine and Michael Harris by calling: 347-205-9366.
