    What is Wealth Consciousness?

Wealth consciousness is something most people have trouble with because it seems so contrary to what they see around them. Let's face it, almost all of us have been raised with limiting beliefs that cause us to see lack and scarcity everywhere. We see on the news poverty, lack, pain and suffering and we nod and say, "That's how it is in the world".

Then we have the relatively few who have developed wealth or prosperity consciousness. They see the world as being full of opportunity and infinite abundance and they are the ones most likely to be called unrealistic. However, these are the same people that manage to build thriving businesses and reach multi-millionaire and billionaire status while the "realists" struggle to pay the bills.

In other words, the majority of us live in fear that we will not gain the things we want and need and, if we do manage to get them, we will lose them and never gain them back. By contrast, those with a wealth consciousness perspective realize that if they got it once, they can get it again. This is how millionaires can go broke in a bad business venture and gain it all back within a year. They realize that if they got there once, they can get there again any time they choose. This is the essence of prosperity consciousness and it is something all of us should strive to develop because it doesn’t only apply to money, it applies to all of life's achievements. As my sculpting teacher used to say, “Don’t worry about messing up something you’ve made. You’re the artist. If you created it once, you can always create it again”.

Economist Paul Zane Pilzer says it is a belief in lack and scarcity that has caused our world to be the way it is--2% of the world's population owning half the world's wealth. According to Dr. Pilzer, however, this economic model is false. Pilzer says, "For the past four hundred years, virtually all practitioners of the dismal science we call economics have agreed on one basic premise: namely that a society's wealth is determined by its supply of physical resources...that the entire world contains a limited amount of these physical resources. This means, from an economic point of view, that life is what the mathematicians call a zero-sum game.  After all, if there are only limited resources, one person's gain must be another person's loss; the richer one person is, the poorer his neighbors must be. Once upon a time, it may even have been true.  But not anymore. Whether or not we ever did, today we do not live in a resource-scarce environment."--Unlimited Wealth by Paul Zane Pilzer.

I just came across an interesting fact that leads credence to Pilzer's premise. According to http://see-the-sea.org/facts/facts-body.htm there is enough gold in the oceans to provide every person on earth 9 pounds of it. At today's gold prices ($941.50/oz on Feb. 13, 2009) that comes out to $135,576 per person. Talk about a stimulus package.

So why does only 2% of the world own half the wealth on the planet? The answer is mindset.

For instance, if I ask you to come up with an extra $50,000 by next month, what goes through your mind? Are they thoughts such as "Impossible!" or "There's no way I could come up with that much in so little time". What if I asked you to come up with $50,000 by next year? What thoughts enter your mind then? How about 2 years from now? 3 years? You see, somewhere, you reach a point where you feel it's very doable to earn $50,000 and any point before that is considered impossible. But if I were to ask Donald Trump or Bill Gates or Warren Buffet to come up with $50,000, they would have it in minutes. Not because they are already rich but because they don't have the mental block that says that amount is too high. Again, they view the world through wealth consciousness rather than lack consciousness.

If I asked you to produce $10 by tomorrow, do you think you could do that? Yes? Why is $10 achievable but $10,000 isn't? Although it doesn't seem this way, the difference is only in your mind. You believe one amount is achievable and the other is not. Could you produce $20 by tomorrow? Could you produce $50? What about $100? Again, as we go up the scale, you will find a number that your mind says, "Ok, stop. That's asking too much. I can't do that!" and that dollar amount is precisely where you will stop being able to produce or earn money within that time frame.

Another question is, "How do I earn $100 a day?" If you answer, "I only get that through my job" then you've uncovered another limiting belief. Why is it that you can only earn that amount of money through your job and not through other avenues? Whatever your answer happens to be, it is keeping you stuck.

The wealthiest people on the planet earn money through various sources. They don't rely on just one business or one idea to provide them an income. They earn through multiple streams of income whereas the average citizen relies on one job or career.

If you want to change your financial situation, consider dumping those beliefs in lack and scarcity and start developing a wealth consciousness. There is actually a science to becoming wealthy and you can start changing your life with The Science of Getting Rich
