My Mama's Mustache & Other Inherited Stuff

"The end of silence is this…light, life, laughter, liberty… oppression will not stand an end of silence." Janeen DeGolier Noetling (1953-?) The recipe for changing a life is simple; it is rarely easy. For myself, it seemed a slow trudge to nowhere. The main ingredient was the getting up each morning and putting one foot before the other; like a broken record, I got sick of it. I did it anyway.

    Date / Time:

Are twelve step people delusional to believe what they say can help another?

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.
    [info][add][mail]
    James Gordon, M.D.

I began to change for the better in Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. The morning I was informed that I was NOT responsible for the whole world's difficulties, I had NOT destroyed all the people I loved, I cried like a baby.

I have indeed gone off the track on this show in the past few weeks, rambling on like a lunatic sometimes. People can change for the worse from negative input also.

This summer has been a miny Holy Crusade here in Upstate, NY. The righteous have invaded and ATTEMPTED to crusify the infidel, me, and all who are in CAHOOTS.

They are doing to me what I am accused of doing to others.

Today I declare my independence from their threats, demeaning, and meanspirited words and acts.

I am back to changing me.

According to Wikepedia, "In 2006, 1,867,212 members in 106,202 AA groups were reported worldwide."

Peoples personal tragedies and triumphs helped me change me. If passing it on is delusional, 1,867,212 people in one twelve step program alone, were delusional in 2006.

Should someone set them straight? Or is it a rigid family system which makes me out to be delusional for telling my personal tragedies and triumphs?

The time for silence is over. And perhaps it is not proper to spill it all over the place, but AA taught me that sometimes survival and recovery are not "pretty." And I say speak what you need to speak to survive. It is not for famous people, authors, and liars alone to speak about their lives. Speech is a priviledge, a right, and a responsibility.

Remember, the person you are helping may be yourself.
