Tonight in honor of National Poetry Month we are talking with the beautiful and talented Poetess Lauren Doriahna. Photobucket Lauren Doriahna is a writer and a poet who fell in love with writing, at the age of eight. Lauren is originally from Detroit, MI and became a resident of East Point, GA in 1989. She joined the Magnet Drama department, at Tri-Cities high school, which nurtured her writing and performing abilities. She continued to grow in the performing arts throughout college. She received her Bachelors degree, in English, from Emory University. During her time at Emory, she studied the works of the great poets from the Victorian, Renaissance, and Jazz Movement. By studying the great works of the past, she found that some of the most admired poets were those who wrote about relevant and current issues. Therefore, Lauren's poetry is centered on current and global issues. Regardless, her writing style cannot be placed in any one genre. She is a regular artist on the open mic scene in Atlanta, GA. She has made eight appearances on Atlanta radio station V-103s- poetic moments. Her motivation is to inspire and educate her audience. Lauren has also performed at various Atlanta venues including the following: Starbucks (Cascade Rd), Mocha Match, Urban Grind, Javaology, JR. Crickets, The Sanctuary, various blog talk radio shows, Apache Cafe (FFX), Oxford College, Emory University, Georgia State University, Java Monkey, Charis Books, Seven Stages, and Javelin’s. Lauren believes that poetry is the language of the soul and the true vision of the artist should be to speak to the conscience of her audience. for bookin info or more information e-mail me @princesscutieja@yahoo.com
