Carolyn Nicolaysen is an author and lecturer on individual and family preparedness. Carolyn gained an appreciation for self reliance growing up with grandparents who had clear memories of the sacrifices associated with the depression and World War 2. Growing up in New Jersey also exposed her to hurricanes and snow and ice storms, She majored in Home Economics education at Central College in Pella Iowa with a concentration in Foods and Nutrition. Iowa exposed her to the horrors of tornadoes. Traveling from New Jersey to Texas Carolyn experienced the most frightening natural disaster she have ever encounter in the form of a dust storm. Carolyn raised her family in the earthquake country of northern California. All this led to an understanding of the importance of being prepared to care for the needs of your family and not depending on others.
