The talented Oscar winning actress Catherine Zeta Jones recent admission of her agonizing struggle with Bipolar Disorder has helped us all see that mental health care is as important and as smart as any other type of health care - and most of all, nothing to hide. Bravo Catherine! Studies have estimated that one in forty Americans have Bipolar Disorder, which is marked by mood swings (formerly known as manic-depression) that can lead to severe impairment. Interestingly, Bipolar Disorder is often linked to creativity and high intelligence - it is now known that Hemingway, Van Gogh and Tchaikovsky shared the disorder in addition to many other Hollywood stars such as Carrie Fisher, Britney Spears and Ben Stiller. In this interesting episode Bobbie looks at some of these examples, the little known signs of this disorder, how stress can be a trigger, and what you can do to help yourself or a loved one if you think you're seeing Bipolar Disorder affecting lives around you.
