For the average adult, the required amount of sleep is 8 hours. A recent study revealed that 1/3 of adults tend to sleep less than 6 hours. In 2009, nearly 17.5% of adults between the ages 18 – 45 admitted to nodding off while driving to and from work. Research also suggests that lack of sleep can result in a lower quality of life for a person. In addition, these sleep deprived individuals tend to experience illness more frequently than people who get the required amount of sleep. People who continuously lack proper sleep are also more likely to experience an inability to concentrate on tasks throughout the day. These people may experience a more difficult time with their memory or the interactions that they experience, which result in more confusion than someone getting the required amount of rest. Today we will be discussing: Reducing Nurse Fatigue with Nurse Reezena H. With experience as a nurse for over 15 years, Ms. Jones has experience in various settings which include Oncology, Women’s Health, Surgery, Medicine, Endoscopy, and most recently as clinical informatics nurse in the electronic health record department. As an active member with the STTI Honor Society, Julie quickly began to implement online platforms to help improve communication within her chapter to grow a stronger community within the vast geographical area. From this experience, Julie grasped the possibility to use electric platforms to help organize and address certain issues amongst a community. Due to her positive experience, Ms. Jones championed to integrate electronic health records (EHR) into her work environment. Today, we will be discussing about social networking for nurses, and the effect that it can have on the medical profession.   Leading with Technology: Transforming Nursing through Social Media 00:27:00iNurse RadionoLeading with Technology,Social Media, women's health,Social Networking for Nurses,Fletcher Allen Health CareToday we are speaking with Julie Jones, EHR Clinical Application Analyst Staff at Fletcher Allen Health Care about Social Networking for Nurses and its importanSurviving Stevens-Johnson Syndrome - Katie Niemeyerhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/inurseradio/2014/09/02/surviving-stevens-johnson-syndrome--katie-niemeyerHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/inurseradio/2014/09/02/surviving-stevens-johnson-syndrome--katie-niemeyer/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/inurseradio/2014/09/02/surviving-stevens-johnson-syndrome--katie-niemeyerTue, 02 Sep 2014 17:00:00 GMTSurviving Stevens-Johnson Syndrome - Katie NiemeyerKatie is the owner and inventor of the Handana® wrist sweatband, and also a survivor of the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome- an inflammatory disorder that can be triggered by certain prescription medication. Inflammation of the skin can become so harmful that a person with SJS can actually develop 3rd degree burns externally while causing internal damage as well. In fact, Katie’s experience was so critical that she spent approximately 3 weeks in the Burn Unit at a hospital from her reaction. Well, thankfully Katie recovered from her reaction and began to pursue an idea for a wristband that would benefit those with SJS as well as many athletes. Being a marathon runner herself, Katie was always practicing and training for various marathons. While running, her eyes were constantly irritated from the burning sensation whenever sweat would drip into her eyes. For a fairly common occurrence, Katie was determined to find a better solution to help create something better than your typical cotton sweatband.     Today we will be speaking with Katie about her motivation behind the Handana® and how she was able to pursue her idea, and turn it into a successful reality. We hope that this gives fellow nurses advice for pursuing any inventions or ideas that they may have. Although men have a lower risk, an estimated 2,150 men are diagnosed every year. Risk factors for getting the disease can be genetic or environmental or both, however it is important to note that 60 to 70% of people with breast cancer have no connection to these risk factors at all and some with risk factors may never develop the cancer.
