According to the, American Association of Colleges of Nurses, employment for Nurses will increase significantly over the next few years in comparison to most occupations.

Nursing is the nation's largest health care profession, totaling over 3.1 million RN's across the US. Regardless of the fields current status, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for RN's will grow faster than many other jobs through 2018.

Being a Nurse is a very rewarding profession that offers various job placement opportunities, but it takes hard work and perseverance. In 2011, a national study revealed that the acceptance rate for nursing schools across the country was approximately 39.5%.  So to make sure you are included in that percentage, we are speaking with Dr. Kathleen Potempa, Dean and Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, for her expert advice to help the next generation of students seeking a career as a Nurse. Dr. Potempa has extensive experience within the medical profession including:

  • 32 years’ experience as a scientist, educator, and administrator.
  • Several notable awards such as the Oregon  Medical Research Foundation Mentor Award that she received in 2002, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Rush University in 2003 and being Named one of 2004’s Fifty Great Leaders of Oregon by Business magazine amongst others
  • Dr. Potempa has dedicated much research towards health within physically impaired populations in conjunction with her community-based research to improve health behavior.
