Don’t get mad when a JOKER tries YOU by Anthony Reeves (owner, the Reeves Law Firm, www.reevesfirm.com, and the A.nthony R.eeves E.xperience, www.anthonyreeves.com)
We’ve alllllll been there. You know the deal. Someone comes up to you and asks you to do something that you KNOW they would not ask someone else to do. What makes it wilder is that you are AMAZED that they stepped to you like that!! Who do they think they are? Why are they asking you to do something that they wouldn’t ask someone else to do? Why did they TRY to get you to do something that you KNOW and THEY KNOW you wouldn’t do?? Why? Because you don’t know unless you TRY!
Well, for those of you who may never have heard of the slang phrased “You TRIED ME!”, the example I provided above is an example of what is referred to as being “TRIED”!! What is even more amazing that EVERY day, we find ourselves in a position where someone is “TRYING” us. What’s even more hilarious is that we find ourselves getting MAD when we get TRIED!! Now, let me tell you something. There is nothing wrong with getting “PISSED” but don’t “MAD”. What’s the difference? Well, if you’re “PISSED”, you can get over it relatively quickly. However, if you’re MAD, you tend to hold on for a long period of time and let it fester and BOIL! Don’t do that. Don’t let someone TRYING you get you so MAD that you can’t let it go.
But see, you gotta look at this thing from an adolescent point of view. We ALL have been TRYING people from the MOMENT we were conceived. Come on now, we’ve all done it so stop acting new. We tried our Mom to see if we can stay up past midnight to watch a movie when we know that we had to be in bed by 11. We tried our Dad to see if we can go to a party where there are other kids with no chaperone. Hell, we even tried our parents when we came home AFTER curfew just to see if we get punished.
But wait, I know you’re going to say that that was when we were kids. We don’t do that now. Come on now, stop playing. You try your boss to get a little more extra money or time off. You STILL try your parents when you need some money when you blew your money at the club the other night. You try to get a sales person to knock a few dollars off of an outfit that has a hole in it that can barely be seen. You still TRY because in the end, you might get lucky. The ultimate reality of “BEING TRIED” is that the other party is HOPING that they will be able to get an outcome that they wouldn’t have normally expected to achieve. So in the end, we ALL TRY!
Let me be the first to tell you that as an Attorney, I can’t get tried EVERY DAY! But don’t sleep, I try JUST As much as I get tried because I’m trying to get over in order to help my client just like the other attorney. But it’s not just attorneys who get tried. You can be a teacher, janitor, preacher, doctor, or mechanic and SOMEONE is going to TRY you. But you gotta shake that off and NOT let to YOU! Trust me, I understand!
So with that being said, I tell you this one little phrase: You are GOING to get TRIED, so don’t get MAD! When your man TRIES you by asking you to swing from the chandelier before you get down, don’t GET MAD! When your woman TRIES you by saying “you don’t love me unless you get in the car, drive through the thunderstorm, run through the parking lot and go get me some Haagen Daas ice cream”, don’t get MAD! When your boss TRIES you by saying, “This project is due tomorrow. Forgot to tell you but I know you can make it hot”, don’t get MAD!! You can get Pissed, but don’t get MAD!
In the end, you never know, unless you TRY!
