Why did Abraham tithe to Melchizedek ?
Please join us this Tuesday April 3rd as we dicuss the tithe,
and how it applies to us. The lesser being blessed by the greater.
Because he was Abraham's King.. Melchizedek was a king and a priest. Abraham did not profit from his victory. He didnt owe to Melchizedek as King of Salem. But he gave 10 percent to Melchizedek as priest - because he knew his protection was God.
Tithing originated way before this . Tribes formed and a patriarch became a king. Some tribal kings would raid the weaker tribes. and they payed tithes to the conquering kings. The weaker kings had to form alliances to survive.
In Genesis 28, after Jacob has an amazing encounter with The Lord. He says in verse 21. If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put on etc.... In verse 22- he says he is setting a stone, which he set for a pillar, SHALL BE GODS HOUSE; and of all thou shall give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee. Why is this so important? He is now trusting THE KING for protection and food and clothing.
Yet He is also bringing it to The Lord - declaring Him as his King and protector.
