Every year in October, the world turns pink and purple. Globally, we begin this month with outrageous breast cancer and domestic violence statistics. Add the rising HIV/AIDS numbers and we’re jolted into fear, sadness, lack and loss. But, for all our awareness and modern technology, the numbers continue to rise. Why? Is part of it that we stuck on illness as opposed to wellness? Are we connected to fear based thinking instead of powerful nurturing, supportive thoughts? Consider that for a moment- during the awareness period, what are you thinking about and how does it affect what you do? Are you motivated and proactive in terms of lifestyle changes that advance well being?
This year, we are focused on the journey to wellness as a way of acting on our own behalf to decrease illness, broken relationships and violence. Instead of wearing pink ribbons and frightening ourselves with statistics, we choose to focus our thoughts on wellness. Beginning with breast cancer, we will center ourselves and concentrate on being well – an empowering prevention strategy that puts us in control of our own well being.
