I've often had clients express surprise about our time together. They had a very different impression of what working with a dietitian would be like. In this segment, Atlanta dietitian Rachel Brandeis, RD, LD, and one of her clients share their experience working together. What a session is like, what a dietitian does--and doesn't--do, the highs, the lows, and the rewards for hanging in there. Rachel Brandeis, MS, RD has been a Registered Dietitian since 1997. After graduating from Emory University in 1990, Rachel decided to pursue her passion for food, nutrition and health and went back to school for a graduate degree in Community Nutrition from Georgia State University . During her time at GSU, she was a recipient of numerous academic awards including the Johnnie W. Prothro Academic Excellence Award, the Georgia State University President's Plaque for Academic Excellence, the Georgia State University Key for Academic Excellence, Georgia State University Faculty Scholar as well as elected to Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities. After graduation, Rachel spent six years at Northside Hospital working in their Weight Reduction Clinic and ran their outpatient nutrition consult program providing medical nutrition therapy specializing in insulin resistance, PCOS, pregnancy, GI disorders and cardiovascular disease. While at Northside, Rachel developed their Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) nutrition education program and was very active in Northside Hospital's speakers bureau. In 2001, Rachel was chosen as a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, representing over 60,000 Registered Dietitians to the national media. Rachel has appeared in many national print, radio and TV outlets including CNN, NPR, The Washington Post, USA Today, Ladies Home Journal, Glamour, Fitness, Parent's, Shape and many others. She is currently a spokesperson for Wendy's Mom-RD program, Kellogg's Snacktivate program and Glaceau Vitaminwater.
