What Black Women and Girls Need to Know About Their Sexual Health

The national spotlight in recent weeks has focused on one of the major challenges for our nation-the rising rates of sexually transmitted diseases. For us, this concern is even greater with the emphasis on STDs being at too high a level for Black women and girls.

Sexually transmitted diseases are quietly rising among Black women and girls. And the reasons are many, including the fact that, as women, we may not consider out sexual health an important part of our overall wellness.

April is STD Awareness Month and National Minority Health Month, Eleanor Hinton Hoytt, host of BlogTalkRadio show, "The Black Women's Health Report," will explore why it is important for us to make sexual health a priority with Dr. Lisa Fitzpatrick , a board certified infectious diseases physician and CDC-trained medical epidemiologist.

The answers may reveal what we need to know to help empower our girls and ourselves to make healthy decisions about our lives.

Listen to the Black Women's Health Imperative's BlogTalkRadio show, "The Black Women's Health Report with Eleanor Hinton Hoytt" on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 3 p.m. EST.
