On Wednesday morning, U.S. President Barack Obama will address the United Nations General Assembly, two days before Palestine Liberation
Organization Chairman Mahmoud Abbas submits a formal request for UN membership for a Palestinian state.

The Obama administration has promised to veto any recommendation for membership for Palestinie in the Security Council, while Israeli officials have threatened to abrogate the Oslo Accords and annex large swaths of the occupied West Bank if the PLO goes ahead with its plan.

At the same time, some Palestinians are questioning the wisdom of the statehood bid, and wondering what impications it will have for the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice.

GUEST:

Dr. Ashrawi, senior member of the PLO Executive Committee and longtime advocate for Palestinian human rights. In recent months Dr. Ashrawi has been traveling around the globe as an envoy for Chairman Abbas, seeking support from governments for the statehood bid.
