She claimed that I "carried" like a boy, but since I'm the youngest of eight, and I have six sisters and only one beloved brother, it is reasonable to assume that my mother was simply suffering from a massive case of wishful thinking. Whatever the reasons, my parents were so convinced I was going to be a boy they had even decided on a boy name for me—Joseph.  But I'm a girl.'   To read the rest of the story, click here.   Join us!00:34:00IllustratorsJournalnoyoung adult,ya,josephine angelini, social media, digital mediaOn the Wednesday May 2nd, 2012 broadcast our special guest is writer and published author Josephine Angelini. Paul is the creator and author of Detective Perez, which according to one review, is 'a sometimes one drawback of the graphic novel genre is that the plot has to be simplified a bit, due to constraints of size. Not true here in this debut graphic novel by Paul Pate. In fact the plot twists can get a bit dizzying. Grab a copy and hang on!' 'It reminds me a bit of Sin City. Here, one honest cop takes on corrupt cops, gangsters, rogue FBI agents and maybe even vampires. Or at least they seem to be vampires. Oh yes, and of course there's the obligatory visit to a strip club.' 'Detective Perez is a well done, fully three dimensional believable character. Joining him is a truly original and fun vampire killer named- of all things- "Bubba". I liked Bubba and I hope we see more of him.' 'The art- also by Paul Pate- is a simple monochrome drawing. But the starkness and lack of color actually adds here, rather than detracts.' 'Fun, lots of action and a real page turner.' 00:31:00IllustratorsJournalnoPaul Pate, books, illustration, digital media, fictionOn the Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 broadcast, our special guest is published author, illustrator and all around good guy Paul Pate from Michigan. Regina is a dynamo in encouraging patient empowerment in our somewhat complex, rather expensive, and more of often than not, marginally accessible 'sick care system' with high degrees of quality variance.    From her blog: 'Regina Holliday is a DC-based patient rights arts advocate. She is currently at work on a series of paintings and blog posts depicting the need for clarity and transparency in medical records. After the death of her husband, Fred Holliday II, on June 17th 2009, she began a large Mural Titled “73 cents.”    This piece can be viewed at 5001 Connecticut Ave. Washington, DC 20008. This piece depicts Holliday family’s nightmare journey through the medical system during Fred’s cancer care. The painting became part of the national healthcare debate and was covered by the BBC, CNN, CBS, AOL, VOA, NPR, The Washington Post and the BMJ.  Regina Holliday can be found on Twitter as ReginaHolliday and on Facebook as Regina Holliday, Wash DC. She speaks at medical conferences providing the patient voice in discussions about HIT.   For more information on Regina, her art and personal history click here.   Since we've embraced the mantra 'life is art', we thought merging her voice in that conversation to be an inviting and exciting exchange.01:02:00IllustratorsJournalnosocial media, twitter, health, epatients, participatory medicineOn the Thursday July 7th, 2011 broadcast at 1PM Pacific and 4PM Eastern time, Lon Levin chats with medical muralist and health care transformation advocateThis Week In Digital Media | Illustrators Journal Previewhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/illustratorsjournal/2011/06/24/this-week-in-digital-media-illustrators-journal-updatePodcastinghttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/illustratorsjournal/2011/06/24/this-week-in-digital-media-illustrators-journal-update/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/illustratorsjournal/2011/06/24/this-week-in-digital-media-illustrators-journal-updateFri, 24 Jun 2011 21:00:00 GMTThis Week In Digital Media | Illustrators Journal Preview On the June 23rd broadcast 2011 at 2PM Pacific/5PM Eastern, co-founder and director of digital media strategy, Gregg Masters chats with Lon Levin, co-founder and creative director of Xanate Media about the impending release the inaugural July issue of the 'Illustrators Journal'.  We'll preview the issue's content, including snipets from the exception "Artist as Brand' series as popularized by master illustrator and visionary artist extraordinaire Greg Spalenka.  Join us for an overdue update, and a preview of what's store .  00:29:00IllustratorsJournalnosocial media, twitter, digital media, illustration, artOn the June 23rd broadcast 2011 at 2PM Pacific/5PM Eastern, co-founder and director of digital media strategy, Gregg Masters chats with Lon Levin, co-founder aLive from Book Expo America | Final Wrap-up With Lon Levinhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/illustratorsjournal/2011/05/28/live-from-book-expo-america-final-4-recap-with-lon-levinPodcastinghttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/illustratorsjournal/2011/05/28/live-from-book-expo-america-final-4-recap-with-lon-levin/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/illustratorsjournal/2011/05/28/live-from-book-expo-america-final-4-recap-with-lon-levinSat, 28 May 2011 22:00:00 GMTLive from Book Expo America | Final Wrap-up With Lon Levin On the Saturday broadcast, at 3PM Pacific/6PM Eastern, Xanate Media 'This Week In Digital Media on BlogTalk Radio' host Gregg Masters chats with co-founder and creative director Lon Levin provides his impressions from his 8th year at Book Expo America 2011 from the Jacob Javits Center in New York.
