After a two-year hiatus, singer/songwriter Amerie has announced the release of her Def Jam debut, "In Love & War," which will be available in August. The lead single, "Why R U," will be serviced June 15th, with an accompanying video directed by Ray Kay (The-Dream, Lady Gaga) premiering June 8th on BET.

Producers on the album include Teddy Riley, Sean Garrett, Eric Hudson, Jim Jonsin, Rico Love and The Buchanans, who helmed the first single. So far, no collaborations have been announced.

"In Love & War" is the Washington DC-natives fourth album, and follows her Columbia records debut, "All I Have" and her Sony releases "Touch" and "Because I Love It," which was released in Europe. "All I Have" sold 661,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while "Touch" sold 406,000.

Our long national musical nightmare is over. Mariah Carey's, on the other hand, is just beginning.

After years of promised but undelivered singles, career-derailing reconciliations with Bobby Brown and, most recently, a string of potential-filled high-profile public appearances with Clive Davis, Whitney Houston has finally made good on her vow for a comeback, setting a Sept. 1 release date for her couldn't-be-more-anticipated new album.

"The wait is over," an announcement on the six-time Grammy winner's official website reads, as it ticks down the days (89 to go), hours, minutes and seconds until fans can get their hands on a copy of the still untitled record (it was previously referred to as Undefeated), the seventh studio album of her career.

Houston's first single, the Diane Warren-penned "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," is expected to be in radio rotation by the summer. No track listing has been released, though it's been rumored for months that the album may also include a duet with R. Kelly.

Houston's last album of original material, Just Whitney, was released in 2002.

Weezer have teamed up with a leading U.S. blanket company to produce their own branded blanket, according to reports.

The band are set to get their own "Snuggie," which is a blanket with sleeves, and instead will call the item a "Wuggie."

Frontman Rivers Cuomo says that the product is a legitimate Snuggie, and the company will help promote the item with the band.

“A Wuggie is basically exactly like a Snuggie, except it says Weezer on it. The people at Snuggie are doing it with us and promoting it with us. It’s a totally legit Snuggie,” Cuomo told Rolling Stone.

As previously reported, Cuomo released a live DVD in April entitled Not Alone - Rivers Cuomo & Friends Live At Fingerprints which was recorded at Fingerprints record store in Long Beach, CA.

Slip-N-Slide Records, home to chart-topping artists like Rick Ross and Plies, has signed the R&B quartet Jagged Edge fresh off their departure from Def Jam Records. Now members Brian Casey, Brandon Casey, Kyle Norman and Richard Wingo are in the studio working on a new album entitled "The Remedy,' slated for a 2010 release, and they hope to tap on old and new labelmates, among others, for guest spots.

"What we want to do with this album is still be on that R&B tip, but with the help of a few hand-picked features," Norman tells Billboard.com. "So far we're in talks with Rick Ross and Plies. We talked to Jay-Z about doing a song on the last album, so we're going to try to pursue that again, and we've also been chatting with Snoop [Dogg]."

In addition, J.E. plan on having guest appearances from newcomers Jarvis and Chelsea, who are signed to the group's Five 81 Records. "Jagged Edge
wants a new creation, a new birth. We want to bring a little light to what we've been doing for the past 11-12 years," he says.

As per the sound of the album, Norman says they won't stray too far from their traditional bedroom music. "I think no matter what we do, our goal is always to sing the hell out of a song. When that is the goal, that will lead to the bedroom anyway," he says. "Topic wise we are all over on this one - some sound more youthful, some more suggestive and some sound real classic, like the big ballads. If you look in the past, the ratio of power ballads was grossly outnumbered, but this album will be more balanced."

Initially signed to Columbia through longtime collaborator and producer Jermaine Dupri's So So Def imprint, the group recorded five albums there before moving to Island Def Jam in 2007 when Dupri made a move as the president of Island Records. They released 2007's "Baby Makin' Project,"
which sold 246,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Still, their short stint at Def Jam wasn't a pleasant one. "The Def Jam situation wasn't best-suited for us," he says. "When we went to Def Jam there were already issues between L.A. Reid and Jermaine Dupri, which we didn't know about. For Jermaine to take us from Columbia to a situation where we had to fight everyday, it didn't make any sense.

"We had our own issues with Columbia, but at the same time it was home for 10 or 11 years," he continues. "If you take us from that you have to prepare to fight for us."

That's when Slip-N-Slide CEO Ted Lucas came to the foursome with a deal they couldn't refuse. "We wanted to do individual projects, but Ted contacted us about a group project," says Norman. "He promised he would help us do our individual things afterwards. Also, this is a joint venture. Jagged Ede is signed to Five 81 Records, so we have more control."

Still, while Dupri won't have a hand in "The Remedy," Norman says their relationship is amicable. "We do feel the situation could've been handled better, but, there is no love lost for Jermaine. We wanted to get released from Def Jam and J.D. thankfully made that happen quickly," he says. Dupri was responsible for the group's No. 1 hits "Let's Get Married," "Promise" and "Where The Party At," featuring Nelly.

Additionally, Jagged Edge is in the preliminary stages of a reality show as well as a clothing line they hope to launch with their new label head, Lucas. Recently, they did an 11-city European tour and are planning to go on a dual tour this year with Rick Ross, Plies, T-Pain and others, as well as a "Battle Of The Bands" trek with Dru Hill, 112 and another as-yet-unannounced group.

Best known for his work as the wry frontman for the Magnetic Fields, Stephin Merritt's music and lyrics for the off-Broadway version of Neil Gaiman's "Coraline" officially debuted last night (June 1) in lower Manhattan at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The production has been in previews since May 7 and is scheduled to run through July 5.

"Coraline" has been a wildly popular novella and film, but this version adds a musical spin to the story of a young girl who finds a portal to an alternate world. Merritt's score and lyrical compositions are used throughout the play, often pairing the actor's voices with eerie combinations of piano, toy piano, and prepared piano (an instrument with various objects, like tin foil and playing cards, attached to its strings).

While the story remains faithful to the original, Merritt's lyrics retain the wittiness that has lined his work in the rock worlds, but also add a new dimension to the play. The songs are used as story devices- and Merritt's stripped down, simplistic presentation creates a creepy ambiance. The songs are either told from protagonist Coraline's perspective or from the perspective of the cast around her singing together.

This isn't the first time Merritt has shown interest in composing and adapting music for another medium. His band the Gothic Archies wrote and recorded music for the audiobook series of "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events." Nonesuch released a compilation of Merritt's Lemony Snicket compositions in 2006 called "The Tragic Treasury: Songs From A Series Of Unfortunate Events." Merritt has also collaborated on three other musical theater productions this decade ("Orphan of Zhao," "Peach Blossom Fan," and "My Life As A Fairy Tale") for which Nonesuch also released a compilation in 2006 entitled "Showtunes."

Within the "Coraline" program, playwright David Greenspan praises Merritt's work by saying he's "a wonderful story-teller. He is able, in song, to not only develop character and advance plot, but to create moments of emotional expansion."

Officials in Gainesville have renamed the city's downtown plaza after rock 'n' roll legend and former Florida resident Bo Diddley.

Diddley died in June 2008. Officials honored him Friday by unveiling a mural and renaming the downtown space the Bo Diddley Community Plaza. Diddley lived in Archer, a few miles southwest of Gainesville, and played at the plaza in 2006.

Diddley's grandson Garry Mitchell thanked the city at the ceremony, and he and other family members gave city officials one of Diddley's guitars.

"Gainesville's been really good to my granddad," Mitchell said. "Thank you for your encouragement and your prayers. Long live Rock and Roll!"

Diddley's family plans to unveil his tombstone in Bronson, also southwest of Gainesville, at 10 a.m. Sunday
