OBX fishermen (and women) star in new reality TV season

After a successful first season, the spinoff of Wicked Tuna—featuring Outer Banks tuna fishermen facing off against their rivals from Gloucester, Massachusetts—returns to the National Geographic Channel Sunday at 9 p.m.

This season comes with a new title that has a distinctly local flavor. The name has been changed from Wicked Tuna: North vs. South, to Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. And it comes with new twist. One of the local boats—the Reel Action—features the show’s first female crew.

Filming took place in Wanchese this past January through late March. The cameras followed seven fishing boats as they sought out the prized Bluefin tuna. A single Bluefin can fetch as much as $10,000, but the industry is highly regulated, with a low catch limit forcing fisherman to compete for their share.
