I Got My Reasons (The Most Dangerous Show On The Internet)

""If your parents are bigots who'd wish you'd disrespect my office, remember our democracy gives even the silliest underachievers among us a voice!" Al Franken called my satirical style "sophisticated" and "charming". But we aren't the most dangerous crew on BTR for nothing, either. Our show brings you political commentary, music and discussion of art and culture you won't hear anywhere else ... smart and fun commentary from co-hosts Leyla, Donald and Stephanie; show regulars like Ellen and Robzilla; and great guests that we don't bore with "straight" interviews. As far as I know we are the ONLY show anywhere who did a hip-hop remix of David Cay Johnston (and played it to him!), or were told by punk icon and best-selling author Legs McNeil that we "f-ing suck." Someone has to crank call the crank callers, might as well be us.

Bioterror Alert: Dese Nuts Are Dangerous!

Take a moment and read, or at least scan, this article. What's wrong with this picture?

The blame for this chunky (and sometimes smooth) mess rests squarely on deregulation: the budget-cuts to FDA type (thanks to Bush's 8-year project to defund regulatory agencies responsible for things like food and mining safety, and his appointment of these industries' foxes to watch the henhouse), as well as the deregulation of business. In our anything-goes business climate, temporary workers with minimum-wage jobs are entrusted with protecting you and your kid's health, because, well, that's what businesses are supposed to do.

The article is a bit long, but stick it out... this cluster-f---k of looking the other way and inaction should remind you of similar cases: spinach recalls, unsafe meat, Chinese pet food and poison toothpaste, and a host of other stories that show the FDA simply cannot do it's job with inadequate funding and that relying on businesses to "self-regulate" means that Adam Smith's "invisible" hand is rarely washed after a trip to the bathroom.

If this all wasn't cray enough, read this:

"In examining Peanut Corporation of America’s records, federal investigators discovered that company tests had found salmonella 12 times since 2007. The inspectors said they got the records by invoking a bioterrorism law."

Getting food producers to comply with requests for safety records now requires invoking BIOTERRORISM laws.

    Bon Appetite!!
