Open Talk: A Conversation with Arlington County Leaders

Murray “Jay” Farr was appointed Chief of Police in May 2015. Prior to his appointment, Jay served in the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) for 23 years, where he served in a variety of positions, including assignments as Acting Police Chief, Deputy Chief of Police for Systems Management, Operations, and Criminal Investigations. He has also served as Arlington County Acting Deputy County Manager.   Jay is also a U.S. Marine veteran, where he served with the Presidential helicopter unit.   Jay earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from George Mason University and he has undertaken study in a number of educational programs, including the Naval Post Graduate School CDHS,  FBI National Academy, Leadership Arlington and Senior Institute for Police Management – Boston College in conjunction with John F. Kennedy School of Business Management, Harvard University. He is Adjunct Professor at George Mason University, where he teaches a curriculum of criminal justice and emergency management for law enforcement.

Ms. Karen Nightengale currently serves as President of the NAACP Arlington Branch. Prior to her election in December 2014, she served as first vice president of the Arlington branch of the NAACP for five years. Ms. Nightengale succeeded Mr. Elmer L.H. Lowe, Sr., who served as branch president since 2008.  The Arlington branch of the NAACP was founded in 1940 and its members meet on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at Walter Reed Community Center.  From the ballot box to the classroom, the thousands of dedicated workers, organizers, leaders and members who make up the NAACP continue to fight for social justice for all Americans.  This should be a very rewarding conversation all listeners.
