How Winning the Battles Loses the War

Why is it so important as short sighted it is, to win a battle? What do we really gain? What do we really win? Why is it that when there is a disagreement between two souls one has to attack the other to prove they are right and then want to go on as if nothing happened? Why do we take advantage of a persons love for us and then when that person questions you, you put them in a position of fighting you when all they wanted is to understand? Is it really important to win? What do you win? Speaking the truth heals, everything else complicates, yet why would we take this option?
