In the past decade, I have evolved from living on a sailboat for three years to landlubber, married for 20 years to single, drinking myself into oblivion every night for seven years to sober, working as a nurse for 22 years to author, photographer, publisher, and now coach and speaker, and from living and traveling in a van I rebuilt in cherrywood, to homeowner.I strive each day for a few moments to be the captain of your ship, where everything you do, think, and feel, resonates with your own heart. I believe this is one premise for lasting emotional peace, and when practiced, allows you to become able to find peace in the fray of every day living. Another practice that keeps us in emotional peace is that of forgiveness. I speak about this quite openly, sharing with the listeners how, after I got sober, I grew into the ability to forgive. I relay the step-by-step process that occurred for me, and I discuss the resulting freedom your listeners can find through practicing forgiveness.Throughout these topics weaves the story of my addiction to alcohol and drugs, hitting my emotional bottom, and becoming sober, now for eleven years. I received help to stay sober during those years by learning to practice responsibility for and accountability to myself. This has helped me to increase my self-esteem. I have written Opening the Gates of the Heart: A Journey of Healing, which is a tribute to the resiliency and beauty of the human spirit. It uses photographs and prose to tell my journey from deep despair and praying to die, to joy, emotional peace, and serenity, I assist others to find emotional peace and sanity by speaking to audiences across the country, and by conducting individual coaching sessions.
