Dr.Henry has created and improved the PAL Center for students in need for 25 years. The Provisional Accelerated Learning (PAL) Center in San Bernardino is a subsidiary of Provisional Educational Services, Inc., a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has provided education and employment to youth and adults for 25 years. The PAL Center has successfully specialized in working with at-risk youth in dropout prevention and recovery programs. The site offers the PAL Charter Academy High School, grades 9 through 12, and youth employment programs, the largest of which is the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Employment Program. We are unique in that historically, the majority of our culturally diverse students are male, minority, and low to middle income. We prepare youth for corporate offices rather than jail cells, and employment rather than deployment. In June 2010, we graduated 70 out of a school enrollment of approximately 285. Last summer we placed over 350 youth in summer and year-around jobs in an economy with an unemployment rate in the teens. Last week we held commencement for 71 youth, many of whom would not have graduated without the individualized services of the PAL Center and Charter Academy. We are currently accepting applications to train and place 120 19-to-21 year old, out-of-school, low-income youth in skills and paid on-the-job training and employment. At the PAL Center "Minds are challenged and lives are changed."
