Science teaching is difficult in many ways. Anyone who has some new ways to teach it should be heard. I will add my own beliefs, theories, and successful (and unsuccessful) experiences. I stressed human body and mind. Teaching little ones the basic concepts of science has never been easier or more fun with the help of Mariela Kleiner’s darling new children’s book, Meet Einstein.   The educational children’s book introduces youngsters to Einstein and shows that they, too, are already great scientists. Light and gravity are concepts preschoolers can learn, and Kleiner’s story shows them how science is all around.   Inspiration for the story came when Kleiner’s own daughter, Hailey, chose a “grown-up” book for bedtime – Einstein’s Relativity. Kleiner improvised the story of Einstein so Hailey could understand it. She wants other children to be as enthusiastic about science.  Kleiner believes that if we start introducing kids to these concepts at the preschool level, it helps to lay a foundation for understanding that they can build upon as they grow older. She says they are already scientists of a sort, due to their curiosity and love of discovery – they just don’t know it until they Meet Einstein!  Receiving much advanced praise from educators, parents, children and the book industry, Meet Einstein is the winner of the 2010 National Indie Excellence Award for best children’s picture book. Future titles from Kleiner might highlight luminaries in such fields as gourmet cuisine or space exploration. Meet Einstein is available in museums and retail stores around the country and online.  This is Kleiner’s first children’s book publication. She lives in Northern California with her husband and two children. Kleiner previously worked for Google; and she and her husband are creators of The Giving Challenge (http://www.thegivingchallenge.com/) that was featured on The Oprah Winfrey show.
