He has a very important message, and we’re here to help him share it.” Lewis, author of The Barbershop Sessions: What Men Want Women to Know and the upcoming follow-up The Barbershop Sessions: Nine Steps Closer, was inspired by that institution (the barbershop) of the African-American community that has traditionally served as a forum for candid and, sometimes, comic conversations about life and love. Lewis has analyzed the dynamics of black relationships and has translated his findings into his series of novels. In the novels, Nine, the main character, is a young man plagued with failed past relationships. He seeks advice from his longtime friend and barber, Soda, as well as the other men who frequent the neighborhood barbershop. The subsequent dialogue of these men is both informative and entertaining. What is the state of love? Why do men cheat? What are the keys to a lasting and loving relationship? The answers of some of love’s most challenging issues and more are all revealed within the pages. Lewis resides in Raleigh, North Carolina where he teaches at the historically black college Saint Augustine’s College in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications and raises his son, Samuel.
