Barton Kunstler - April 13th - Technologically Enhanced Individuals On April 13th, 4-5 PM (PST), Dr.Rose will interview Barton Kunstler. Kunstler is an account executive for IST Energy and the educational director of Chess Corps in Brookline, Massachusetts, which applies brain-based learning methods to teaching and coaching chess. He is the author of the THE HOTHOUSE EFFECT (AMAACOM, 2003) and writes for The Huffington Post. Barton’s article in the March/April issue of the FUTURIST is one look of the future. It sprang from a monograph he wrote in 2008 that was published by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the U.S. Army War College Center for Strategic Leadership. The article, “The Singularity’s Impact on Business Leaders: A Scenario” is subtitled with - How will technologically enhanced individuals collaborate with “normal” employees? I was interested in these types of humans as it applied to what would happen in classrooms. My own lifelong interest and concern about the best methods to cope with human uniqueness was sparked by what his article indicated as the problems and possibilities of human tinkering with genetics and technology could bring in the near future. Unintended consequences are always a concern with scientific advances. The ethical, economic, and for some the religious consequences are factors that we will discuss and invite others to join in the conversation. One consequence that will result is more people will be educated to the enormous possibilities of brain-based learning.
