Hybrid Jazz Salutes ELLA on International Jazz Day - with Anna Danes!

If we were to list the accomplishments of Ella Fitzgerald - as well as those that she has inpired - we'd be here until next Thursday.  At which time Jimmy Greene joins us!  But I digress :-D

Speaking of men one last time during this episode description, no less than Tony Bennett has said that Ella was and continues to be his favorite Jazz artist.  That inspiration has been contagious.  And you know what's TRULY cool?  She never had to be a sex symbol to become one of the world's most beloved singers.  EVER.

To coincide with what yours truly perceives as what Ella would wish, we're featuring all female artists on this special show - on "International Jazz Day"- April 30th.  Not ALL of the music that you hear will be from women in Jazz - but the bandleader status will be fully in check.  Hear me?  With the exception of ONE male vocal, you will hear the LADIES who have made or continue to make Jazz sizzle and pop.  Female bandleaders, of course, don't necessarily have females playing with her - all of this is taken into consideration.  But you know what?  Ella would be proud of this.  It's something that SHE didn't see in her lifetime.  And she would have applauded the gender gap closing more than ANYONE.

To help us with the tribute to Ella is a wonderful talent who we've come to appreciate.  More than that: LOVE.  Anna Danes is a survivor and thriver who has been influenced by Miss Ella and has come into her own in the past few years.  Especially with "Find Your Wings."  Could ANY title be more appropriate for this show?!  Anna has a glorious event coming up VERY soon - in the state in which your host resides!  We will focus on that event - and - in actuality - any event that we can find that honors Ella :)  Please join us.  ONE p.m. Eastern on 4/30!
